South Korean nuclear weapons would fracture US ties, defence chief says
South Korea could rupture its U.S. alliance and shock financial markets if it started building nuclear weapons, Defence Minister Shin Won-sik told Reuters, dismissing renewed domestic calls for the country's own arsenal to deter North Korea. As the neighbouring North rapidly expands nuclear and missile capabilities, more South Korean officials and members of President Yoon Suk Yeol's conservative ruling party have called in recent months for developing nuclear weapons. The prospect of another term for former U.S. President Donald Trump, who complained about the cost of the U.S. military presence in South Korea and launched unprecedented talks with the North, has further fuelled the debate.

RBI's MPC unlikely to announce a change in repo rate, according to an ET poll
RBI) is likely to keep interest rates unchanged this week as high food prices prevent any tilt toward softer policy, but easing core inflation and a global turn toward lower borrowing costs could make a case for the central bank to shift to a neutral stance in the next quarter that coincides with the country’s traditionally busy economic season. An ET poll consisting of 12 respondents unanimously predicted the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) would keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.50% at the end of its three-day meeting on August 8. This would mark the ninth consecutive bi-monthly meeting in which the rate-setting panel could maintaine a status quo on rates. The repo rate is the rate at which the RBI lends to banks.

One church, two astronauts: How Texas congregation is supporting its members on space station
Johnson Space Center, a Houston-area church takes a moment during Wednesday Bible studies and Sunday evening services to pray for two members who cannot be there. In fact, there's no way on Earth for NASA astronauts Barry «Butch» Wilmore and Tracy Dyson to show up at Providence Baptist Church. They're in space, orbiting the planet. More specifically, these two members are working on the International Space Station together. Like many astronauts before them, they brought along their faith when they launched into space. «God uses all of us in pretty neat ways, and I think I get the most joy from what I do thinking about it in those terms,» said Dyson, discussing her job on the «Bible Project» podcast ahead of her March launch on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
