America got the world driving. Now it’s going home
Carl Benz might have invented the automobile, but it’s the United States that got us to drive them. The relentless export of American cars and car culture put the world on the road in the 20th century. By the 1960s, Ford Motor Co. had plants in almost every major European country, as well as Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, India, Israel, Peru, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, and Zimbabwe. Right now, it’s passing that baton to China with barely a fight. The US car industry that emerges will be smaller, less influential — and, eventually, less profitable and financially sustainable.

Tilak Varma crowned best fielder of the series in India's triumphant South Africa tour
India triumphed 3-1, with Tilak Varma being named the best fielder of the series by the Indian team. The young cricketer outshone strong contenders Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav to claim the accolade. Stand-in fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh requested captain Suryakumar Yadav to announce the winner. Yadav approached Samson, shook his hand, and then, to the surprise and delight of the dressing room, declared Tilak Varma the best fielder. The room erupted in laughter and applause, reflecting the camaraderie and team spirit. The award was presented to Tilak by stand-in head coach VVS Laxman. Upon receiving the medal, Tilak humbly dedicated the honour, saying, «I want to say one thing, Rinku's God's plan.»

India's roadmap to doubling energy efficiency: A key to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070
energy efficiency is the central pillar of its plan to achieve Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, which aims for a 45% reduction in carbon intensity and a 1 bn t reduction in GHG emissions by 2030. Hitting these targets is indispensable to its long-term goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2070. Bottlenecks that hinder adoption of energy-efficient technologies — finance, sustainable supply chains and policies — must be identified and addressed. For emerging markets, energy demand is essential for development. The developing world must look to sustainable progress through improved energy efficiency, integration of RE, and adoption of innovative technologies that promote cleaner and more efficient-energy systems. To do this, financing, supportive policy frameworks and continued international collaboration are required to ensure access to necessary resources, supply chains and expertise. One such critical area for collaboration is sharing best practices among developing countries like Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia. These nations often face similar challenges in enhancing energy efficiency. Working together can lead to significant advancements. For example, India can champion initiatives that facilitate access to investments and technologies, particularly for manufacturing countries.

World record missed: Goa’s Kauthankar & Bakle miss Sangakkara-Jayawardene record due to a mistimed call
Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle etched their names in Ranji Trophy history with a 606-run partnership for the third wicket against Arunachal Pradesh. However, their joy of setting a new Ranji record turned bittersweet when they realized they had narrowly missed breaking the all-time first-class cricket partnership record by just 19 runs. When Kauthankar and Bakle walked into the dressing room at the lunch break, they were informed they were only 18 runs away from surpassing Maharashtra's Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne’s Ranji Trophy record of 594 runs. On resumption, the duo quickly broke the record amidst loud cheers at the Academy ground in Porvorim. Kauthankar, who had already reached a triple century, was joined by Bakle, who also completed his maiden triple ton in just his second Ranji game. The Goa captain, Darshan Misal, declared the innings at 727-2, sealing the 606-run partnership. Only later did the team realise that they were just 19 runs shy of breaking the all-time first-class record of 624 runs, set by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene against South Africa in 2006.

Ind vs SA T20I Live Streaming: Check when and where to watch 3rd T20I between India and South Africa
India's lineup will be tested once again on Centurion's pace friendly pitch in the third T20I against South Africa on Wednesday. In the second T20I, India's top order struggled, managing just 124 for six as they faltered against South Africa’s pacers. Abhishek Sharma's lack of runs has become a concern. The team management might also consider playing Tilak Verma as an opener and handing Ramandeep Singh a debut for increased lower order depth.

India vs South Africa Live Score 3rd T20I: All eyes on Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav in Centurion
India vs South Africa Live Score 3rd T20I: Locked at 1-1 after the first two games, India and South Africa will be hoping for another nail-biting thriller when they face off at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday. If Sanju Samson's second T20I ton and combined work by Indian spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi headlined Men in Blue's win in Durban, Tristan Stubbs' calm and composed knock under pressure restored parity for the hosts in Gqeberha. With the series being a four-game rubber, whichever team wins in Centurion, won't lose the series.

Attempts to change the people are as much part of history as embrace of the status quo
...the people Had squandered the confidence of the government And could only win it back By redoubled work. Would it not in that case Be simpler for the government To dissolve the people And elect another? — Die Losung (The Solution), Bertolt Brecht, 1953 Brecht, of course, was mocking the Stalinist government of East Germany, against which the people had staged an uprising in 1953, only for it to be crushed. However, there is a strong case for stripping Brecht's solution of installing a new people of all irony, and adopting it as the primary project of redemption around the world, given the kinds of leaders who get elected. Does this sound frivolous? Or worse, elitist? Instead of moulding yourself to find acceptance among the people who had rejected you, isn't it pure conceit to hope to change them, rather than change yourself?

India vs South Africa 3rd T20I: Date, venue, live streaming, stats, pitch, and weather report
After a disappointing batting performance in the second match, India will be looking to make changes to their lineup. Abhishek Sharma's recent form is a concern, and the team may consider bringing in Tilak Varma to open with Sanju Samson. Ramandeep Singh is also an option for the middle order. India's key batters, including Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Rinku Singh, will need to perform consistently. Pandya, despite scoring 39 runs in the previous game, was slow to score, highlighting an area for improvement. While Samson is currently in good form, other batters must contribute if he has an off day.

KL Rahul & the art of getting out
KL Rahul it is all in the mind. Someone who has scored hundreds in South Africa, England and Australia obviously has the potential. If he could come back from injury and keep wickets as well as he did in the 2023 World Cup, there is little doubt he has the ability. His problem is he is periodically low on confidence. Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli (as coach and captain) were able to get the best out of him from time to time. Then, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid did the same. Now, it is on Rohit and Gautam Gambhir to give him the confidence to step up in Australia,” that was how former India wicketkeeper and later chief selector MSK Prasad summed up KL Rahul. This was just moments after Rahul was dismissed in the most bizarre manner in the second innings of the India A game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. There were no real alarms in the 43 balls he played and it seemed he was getting set for a long innings. That’s when a delivery from off spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, which would have missed leg stump, was actually padded by Rahul towards the off stump after he offered no shot. It was a freakish dismissal but with Rahul such things seem to happen far too often. “He is more invested in being perfect than in scoring runs. It is a kind of obsession with him. The number of times he shadow bats, perfects his stance, practices getting behind the line of the ball, you know that he is trying to be as perfect as is humanly possible,” said one of the Duleep Trophy commentators.
