Following her triumphant first-place finish, Mya received the title of Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Mya made the decision to transfer to Colorado State after completing her freshman and sophomore years at Arizona State University. During her time at ASU, she actively participated in shot put as a member of the Sun Devils’ track and field team. While pursuing a major in criminal justice at ASU, Mya has previously acknowledged her father as the primary influence on her athletic career.

John Turscak stabbed Chauvin 22 times in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, with an improvised knife, federal prosecutors said. Turscak, 52, told correctional officers he would've killed Chauvin had they not responded so quickly, prosecutors said. Turscak later told FBI agents that he'd been thinking about assaulting Chauvin for about a month because he is a high-profile inmate but denied wanting to kill him, prosecutors said. Turscak told the agents that he attacked Chauvin on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, as a symbolic connection to the Black Lives Matter movement and the «Black Hand» symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia gang, prosecutors said. An attorney for Turscak was not listed in court records and Turscak, who has represented himself in numerous court matters from prison, remained in custody on Friday. Chauvin, 47, was sent to FCI Tucson from a maximum-security Minnesota state prison in August 2022 to simultaneously serve a 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd's civil rights and a 22½-year state sentence for second-degree murder. Chauvin's lawyer, Eric Nelson, had advocated for keeping him out of general population and away from other inmates, anticipating he'd be a target.

Derek Chauvin is in the news once again. The police officer who was indicted for murdering George Floyd has been stabbed in prison. The 47-year-old police officer is serving a 22-and-a-half-year sentence for the murder of Floyd in Minneapolis in May 2020. In a viral video, he could be seen kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes outside a corner store in a row over a fake $20 bill. The victim complained he was unable to breathe. It sparked nationwide protests against alleged police brutality and racism.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed an unidentified inmate was assaulted at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson in Arizona, but declined to confirm if it was Chauvin. Chauvin, 47, was stabbed by another inmate at the prison, the news agency said, citing a source who was not authorized to discuss the attack and sought anonymity. The New York Times also reported Chavin was stabbed, citing two people with knowledge of the matter. In its statement, the Bureau said employees of the medium security prison responded to the attack and «initiated life-saving measures» for one individual, who was taken by emergency medical services to a hospital for treatment. No employees were injured and the public was never in danger from the incident at 12:30 p.m. MST.
