Brokerages Have a New Path to Avoid Formal Regulatory Investigations
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories.Brokerage firms facing scrutiny over a potential compliance violation have long been able to help their cause by engaging with regulators throughout the process. Now Finra, the brokerage industry’s self-regulatory organization, is piloting a new self-reporting initiative that could bring Finra’s inquiries to an end sooner and potentially avoid penalties.Leaders of Finra’s enforcement division described reforms to the organization’s processes at a recent conference in Washington, stressing the importance of volunteering information that could help regulators understand more about the firm’s operations, what might have gone wrong from a compliance perspective, and what the firm is doing to address the issue. At the outset of an investigation, Finra is inviting firms, along with their outside counsel, to sit for an introductory meeting.

'Spent my childhood in extreme poverty': PM Modi talks about learnings he got from sitting at his father's tea shop
extreme poverty. «I learnt a lot from people who came to my father's tea shop while I used to sit there; I applied those learnings in my public life,» said PM Modi. «Every morning, around 4:00 or 4:30 am, he would leave the house, walk long distances, visit several temples, and then reach his shop,» PM Modi said. He described how his father’s traditional leather shoes made a distinct tock, tock, tock sound as he walked through the village. «People in the village used to say that they could tell the time just by hearing his footsteps—‘Oh yes, Mr. Damodar is on his way.’ Such was his discipline,» he recalled.

A series of unfortunate lit fest events
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Imagine a literary festival not as encounters with favourite authors or listening to fascinating debates but instead as embarrassing onstage debacles, serialised episodes of misadventures that metamorphose in the mind into a very public pillorying. With this season’s calendar of lit fests, in locations as diverse as Jaipur and Thimphu, coming to an end, my bizarre experiences at Sri Lanka’s Galle Literary Festival last month reminded me of my accident-prone run on stage.

Travel not just to tick off a checklist but to get experientially rich: Why travelling with a purpose to learn and volunteer can be very rewarding
Everyone has travel on their minds these days. Airports and train stations are full; roads are crammed with vehicles taking people to places they wish to see; conducted and curated tours are selling as soon as they are announced; and cruises are filled with eager passengers. Travel is now a'must do’ in the annual list of expenses in a household. Retired people dedicate even more time and resources to travel. They want to see the world before they become too old to do so. These trips around the world are not essentially travel. They are tours to a place with the intention of ticking something off a list. These tourists have no time to understand the history of a place, pause to consider how people live there, or get to taste the local cuisine, art, music, or theater. They are led by the belief that adding another magnet to their refrigerator is a badge of honour. Bragging on social media is another key objective of these pursuits. Operators offer several packages to cash into the travel bug syndrome.
