Prince of Wales opens up about feeling terrified while volunteering at mental health helpline during Covid
Prince William on March 6 visited Mental Health Innovations (MHI), where he shared his experience volunteering at a mental health helpline during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said it was 'terrifying’.
MHI is the organisation responsible for creating Shout, the United Kingdom's first 24-hour text messaging support service for people experiencing mental health challenges.
Prince of Wales' 'terrifying' experience
The Prince of Wales recalled an emotional experience while volunteering at a mental health helpline for young people during Covid.
«I volunteered for a while during COVID, and some of those conversations stayed with me for a long time,» he shared with members of a youth advisory board during an engagement in West London. «You always ask yourself, 'Did I give enough? Did I do enough? Did I find the right answer?'»
In 2021, Prince William and Kate had video called the parents of a 12-year-old boy who had been struggling with severe anxiety during the pandemic. The boy was standing on a bridge one day and considered ending his life. However, he reached out to Shout, and their text support helped him turn things around.
