Robbie Robertson, Canadian music legend, dead at 80
The Weight and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, has died at the age of 80, his manager said on Wednesday.Robertson, who left his Toronto home at age 16 to pursue his rock’n’roll dreams, died Wednesday in Los Angeles after a long illness, Robertson’s manager of 34 years, Jared Levine, said in a statement.“Robbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death,” the statement added.The Band included four Canadians – Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel – and was anchored by an Arkansas drummer, Levon Helm. Originally dubbed The Hawks as the backing band for rockabilly wild man Ronnie Hawkins, they gained attention supporting Bob Dylan on his Going Electric tours of 1965-1966.After changing their name to The Band and rebasing in Woodstock, New York, they became one of the most respected groups in rock.

Magnus White died in a training accident at the age of 17. White was struck by a vehicle while he was training in Boulder, Colorado. Magnus White is survived by his mother Jill and father Michael and brother Aero. His friends and relatives set up GoFundMe, which collected USD 60,000 Monday. Magnus White won Junior 17-18 Cyclocross National Championships 2021, before taking part in USA Cycling National Team for a full season of European Cyclocross racing. He finished the year 2022 with UCI Cyclocross World Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was selected for Mountain Bike World Championships team in 2023. White was scheduled to participate in UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow on August 10. Confirming the death, USA Cycling said in an online press release, «White fell in love with cycling at an early age through Boulder Junior Cycling. He was a rising star in the off-road cycling scene and his passion for cycling was evident through his racing and camaraderie with his teammates and local community.» The cycling association said in the statement, «White was focused on his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships on August 10, 2023.» Cycling USA said further, «We offer our heartfelt condolences to the White family, his teammates, friends, and the Boulder community during this incredibly difficult time.»
