UnitedHealthcare CEO salary, bonus, compensation: Check Brian Thompson's annual income
UnitedHealthcare CEO salary and bonus. 50-year-old Thompson had run the insurance arm of health care giant UnitedHealth Group Inc. since 2021 and had worked at the company for 20 years. The University of Iowa graduate who began his career as a certified public accountant had little name recognition beyond the industry. Even to investors who own its stock, the public face of the parent company belonged to CEO Andrew Witty, a knighted British triathlete who has testified before Congress.

Trump pick Kash Patel must prove he'll restore public faith in the FBI, a leading GOP senator says
Donald Trump's drive to upend the FBI was welcomed by Republican senators although it was not clear on Sunday how strongly members of the incoming majority party would embrace his move to install ally Kash Patel as the next director of the Justice Department's top investigative arm. Patel, a onetime national security prosecutor who is aligned with the president-elect's rhetoric about a «deep state,» «must prove to Congress he will reform & restore public trust in FBI,» said Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, in line to be the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman when Republicans take control in January, in a post on X. Patel lacks the high-level legal and management experience that FBI directors, including Robert Mueller, James Comey and Christopher Wray, who now holds that job, had before their nominations. It's a 10-year term, and Trump named Wray in 2017 after firing Comey. So Trump's announcement late Saturday means Wray must either resign or be fired after Trump takes office on Jan. 20, 2025.

Trump chooses former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker as NATO ambassador
Donald Trump says he has chosen former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to serve as U.S. ambassador to NATO, the bedrock Western alliance that the president-elect has repeatedly expressed skepticism about. Trump, in a statement, said Whitaker was «a strong warrior and loyal Patriot» who «will ensure the United States' interests are advanced and defended» and «strengthen relationships with our NATO Allies, and stand firm in the face of threats to Peace and Stability.» The choice of Whitaker as the nation's representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an unusual one, given his background is as a lawyer and not in foreign policy.

US election results: Donald Trump or Kamala Harris? Wall Street, Stock market pick winner
US election 2024 results are set to be declared after November 5 polling day as millions of American voters will pick their next President between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. A new poll showed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris leading in Iowa ahead of a Tuesday vote, even though rising bets of a win for Republican candidate Donald Trump in the recent weeks had lifted bond yields, dollar and bitcoin, as per a Reuters report. Stocks viewed as bets on the former president's chances of victory dipped in premarket trading, while a drop in 10-year Treasury yield from its recent high eased pressure on the broader market. Trump Media & Technology Group slipped 5 per cent and software developer Phunware that made apps for Trump campaign in 2020 fell 8.9 per cent, as per the Reuters report.

US elections: Kamala Harris woos Michigan as Donald Trump hits eastern states
Kamala Harris campaigns in Michigan on Sunday while her Republican rival Donald Trump will stop in three eastern battleground states just two days before Tuesday's US presidential election. Opinion polls show a historically close race, and a New York Times/Siena College poll published on Sunday showed Vice President Harris and former President Trump neck-and-neck in the seven states that are likely to determine the outcome on Tuesday. A poll showing Harris leading in Iowa-a state Trump won easily in the past two elections-raised the possibility of an unexpected outcome, though another poll showed her trailing in that state.

US elections 2024: How Kamala Harris secured unexpected lead over Trump in Iowa polls
Kamala Harris has surpassed Republican Donald Trump in a new poll in Iowa, with likely women voters responsible for the turnaround in a state that Trump easily won in 2016 and 2020, according to the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll released on Saturday. The poll of 808 likely voters, who were surveyed Oct. 28-31, has Harris leading Trump 47%-44% in Iowa, which has been trending deeply Republican in recent years. It is within the 3.4 percentage point margin of error, but it marked a turnaround from a September Iowa Poll that had Trump with a 4-point lead, the newspaper reported.

US election results: Is Donald Trump fearing defeat against Kamala Harris?
The Republican ex-president, who is in a dead heat with Democrat Kamala Harris in the race for the White House, has never acknowledged the legitimacy of his election defeats — from the 2016 Iowa primary to his presidential contest in 2020. His denialism deeply polarized the country last time around, and his continued attempts to sow distrust in US democracy have sparked fears of a repeat of the violence seen during the 2021 storming of the US Capitol.

US FDA says 75 people taken ill from McDonald's E.coli outbreak
U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Friday that 75 persons have been infected from the E.coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers. The infections had killed one person, sickened 49 and hospitalized 10 across the U.S. West and Midwest, the CDC had said on Oct. 22. The FDA said 22 persons out of the 61, on whom information was available, have been hospitalized. Two of them have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can cause kidney failure.
