The White House held its first-ever cybersecurity “summit” on the ransomware attacks plaguing U.S. schools

Trump and his legal team face long odds in their bid to move his 2020 election conspiracy trial out of Washington, arguing the Republican can't possibly get a fair trial in the overwhelmingly Democratic nation's capital. Criminal defendants routinely try to have their cases moved to increase their chances of getting a favourable jury. Trump and his attorney say they're eying West Virginia, which Trump easily won in 2020.

The state of New York will debut its first cybersecurity strategy, including plans to modernize government networks, provide digital defenses at the county level and regulate critical infrastructure. The strategy, which Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to announce today, comes as an array of cyberattacks have battered New York, with the state’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services responding to 57 cyber incidents in 2022.

While there isn't a «foolproof solution to stay safe from all scams,» as Breyault puts it, there are strategies you can employ to reduce your risk. Here are four of the most important ones:

Former President Donald Trump attacked the nation’s capital as a “filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment" as the leading Republican candidate in the 2024 race seeks to move his federal trial on conspiracy and obstruction charges to a more politically friendly venue. “NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL, OR EVEN CLOSE TO A FAIR TRIAL, IN WASHINGTON, D.C.," Trump wrote in an all-capital-letters post on Truth Social, his social media site. He called for a US takeover of the city — which has limited home-rule powers under congressional supervision — a move he said would be unpopular with potential jurors.

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase filed an amicus brief in support of a motion to dismiss the case brought by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against former Coinbase product manager Ishan Wahi and other for insider trading. Coinbase condemns the defendants conduct, it said in the brief, but supports the defendants’ motion because of the SEC’s assumption that the exchange listed securities on its platform.

The Blockchain Association filed an amicus brief Feb. 13 in the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) case against former Coinbase Global product manager Ishan Wahi and his associates. The advocacy group expressed its support for the defendants’ argument for dismissal, where they claimed the SEC had exceeded its authority in the case. The case alleging unregistered securities sales of nine tokens is being heard in the U.S. District Court of Western Washington.
