markets COST Merit Platform track information Department The government must ease off on litigation to reduce the judiciary’s burden and help the economy
₹1 crore for high courts and ₹2 crore for the Supreme Court), pendency reduction has been marginal, reflecting a culture of litigation as bureaucratic insurance rather than legal necessity. This culture stems from several institutionalized incentives that make ‘default litigation’ the path of least resistance.Audit and vigilance frameworks indirectly treat unappealed losses as negligence; accounting codes of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) require every audit objection to be ‘settled’ or ‘explained,’ and an appeal offers safe harbour from being questioned, while a liberal appellate framework allows virtually automatic filing.Despite calls for a binding national litigation policy, successive governments have balked.Instead, we now have a ‘Directive for Efficient and Effective Management of Litigation’ (April 2025), which introduces nodal officers, legal cells and MIS dashboards, but lacks statutory teeth, performance-linked disincentives or real-time data integrity.LIMBS itself remains under-updated and fails to track reasons for appeal. Here is a five-point agenda for inclusion in a national litigation policy. First, India must move away from its open-ended appeal culture and adopt a ‘leave-to-litigate’ system that acts as a regulatory filter.

Aware Merit economy Highways wellness Trade Updates Centre eyes ₹12 trillion capex in FY27 as private investment stays cautious
₹12 trillion in FY27, according to two people aware of the matter. The move signals that public investment will continue to play a central role in supporting growth as private capex remains uneven and global uncertainty persists. The proposal reflects the government's continued reliance on infrastructure spending to support domestic demand amid geopolitical risks, trade uncertainty and volatile financial conditions that have kept private investors cautious. The planned increase assumes the government will close the current financial year without fiscal slippage despite sharp cuts in goods and services tax (GST) and income tax rates, aided by savings on the revenue account and improved fund utilization by implementing agencies, one of the people cited above said.In FY26, the Centre allocated ₹11.21 trillion for capital expenditure, marking a 10% jump over the previous year’s revised estimates, along with an additional ₹3.9 trillion as grants to states for their own capital spending.

The ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit leaves in place a lower court order blocking Trump's freeze on $3 trillion in federal grants, loans and other financial aid while the government appeals. The ruling by the court in Boston is the first time an appeals court has weighed in on the legal merits of the spending freeze, one of several marquee Trump policies held up by litigation. U.S. District Judge John McConnell issued an injunction blocking the freeze on March 6, saying the Trump administration had overstepped its authority. In its 48-page decision Wednesday, a panel of three appeals court judges unanimously rejected the administration's argument that McConnell's ruling was too broad.

markets Merit Action wellness Trade Experts rights Market rebound mostly led by DIIs; betting on BFSI and consumer discretionary stocks: Sunil Subramaniam
Sunil Subramaniam, Market Expert, says that though FIIs have started coming back, the market bounce-back is being led by DIIs as they have been sitting on Rs 2.5 lakh crore cash in the broad market and they are now looking to reverse the trade. Plus the Rs 100,000 crore Budget bonanza via tax cuts would also kick in. Subramaniam says rate sensitives and hence BFSI and consumer discretionary stocks are the right picks at this time. What are you making of this steady climb that the markets have seen? The Nifty alone has recovered about almost 1,000 to 1,200 points from the recent lows? Sunil Subramaniam: Though FIIs are coming back slowly, I still think it is the DII action which is driving the markets because as I have said before, there is a huge pileup of cash, almost about Rs 2.5 lakh crores with DIIs there and that money is a broad market money. It is not just largecaps, it is large, mid, and small. As the fund houses had generated cash by selling small and midcap stocks, used part of it to buy largecaps and hence the fall in largecaps is not so much, they are essentially now looking at reversing the trade.

markets UPS Target Ball Merit wellness India's ODIssey to top of the world: Rohit’s men defeat New Zealand by four wickets to win Champions Trophy for third time
India’s bowlers stuck to their guns, attacking the stumps and keeping the batsmen honest. In turn, New Zealand’s finest seem to have got a measure not only of the conditions and opposition but of what was needed in a tournament final. At no time did New Zealand’s batting look under pressure, harried or hurried. It was as though they had mentally set themselves a target of something in the region of 250, and were planning their way there, rather than aiming for 300 and falling well short. Rachin Ravindra was a treat to watch for his 37 and Daryl Mitchell ensured that the innings was held together with 63. If New Zealand were kept on a tight leash by India’s spinners, with wickets falling just regularly enough to ensure that the game was always within grasp, Michael Bracewell, at No 7, kept New Zealand competitive with a breezy 53.
