SC refuses to pass order to stop CoC from holding meeting in insolvency proceedings against Byju's
Supreme Court on Thursday refused to pass an interim order to ensure that the committee of creditors (CoC) does not hold any meeting in pursuance of the insolvency proceedings against embattled ed-tech firm Byju's. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, however, said it will accord the final hearing in the matter on August 27. The bench said the developments, which may take place in the meantime, can be negated if it finds there was no merit in the appeal of the US-based creditor Glas Trust Company LLC against the judgment of the insolvency body — National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). At the outset, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Byju's, and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the CoC has been constituted in the meantime and 98 per cent stakes are with the US firm.

Does ONGC merit a big upgrade in the market? Probal Sen explains
Probal Sen, V-P-Equity Research, ICICI Securities, says there is a reasonable dividend yield in NGC and Oil Insia and the return ratio should start to show an improvement, specifically for ONGC and to a lesser extent with Oil India, despite all the strength, I think there is still some steam left in these two stories. When did you last look at ONGC so closely after decades of tracking the energy space? Does it merit the big upgrade coming in? Three of your peers in the industry have done it. Probal Sen: We have had a positive stance on ONGC over the last year. I am surprised by the extent of the reaction. To be honest, I do not think that the production guidance that the company gave was anything new compared to what they have been anyways saying for the last three quarters.

Short-term garment orders may shift to India due to turmoil in Bangladesh: Exporters
exporters on Tuesday said that the political situation in Bangladesh may lead to short-term shifting of garment orders to India. However, they added that India has no intention or inclination to exploit this unfortunate situation in its friendly neighbouring country. On Monday, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country amid massive public anger over her government's controversial quota system reserving 30 per cent of jobs for families of veterans who fought the 1971 liberation war. More than 400 people have been killed in the protests. Mithileshwar Thakur, Secretary General of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) said that the current situation in Bangladesh is a matter of great concern for all the exporters.

Swati Maliwal assault case: Bibhav Kumar's arrest necessary as per law, says Delhi HC
Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar in a case concerning alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal was «necessary» and police strictly followed the law while doing so, the Delhi High Court has said. The court, which on Friday dismissed Kumar's petition that claimed his arrest was illegal, said in its written judgment that there was no merit in his plea. Kumar, currently in judicial custody, allegedly assaulted Maliwal at Kejriwal's official residence on May 13. He was arrested by the Delhi Police on May 18. In his plea, Kumar had sought a direction to declare his arrest as illegal and in gross violation of the provisions of section 41A (notice of appearance before police officer) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and against the mandate of the law.
