The top court, which was hearing the plea of the former Telangana chief minister alleging bias against the head of the inquiry panel, was informed by the counsel of Justice (retd) Reddy that he does not want to be part of the commission. A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justice J B Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra took note of the submission and permitted the Congress-led state government to substitute Justice (retd) Reddy in the Commission of Inquiry.

Bombay High Court on Friday extended by four weeks the interim bail on medical grounds granted to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, accused in a money laundering case. On May 6, the high court had granted interim bail for two months on medical grounds to Goyal, arrested in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). 75-year-old Goyal has now filed an application seeking extension of the same. Goyal, who is suffering from cancer, had submitted to the high court that he has to undergo a preliminary laparoscopic surgery. His counsel Aabad Ponda told a single bench of Justice N J Jamadar that the surgery is scheduled on July 23. The bench took note of this and extended the interim bail for four weeks. «Having perused the medical reports and the situation in which the applicant finds himself, in the backdrop of the physical and psychological ailments, aggravated on account of the demise of his wife, I deem it appropriate to extend the interim bail on medical ground by a period of four weeks,» the HC said. It would hear Goyal's plea for bail both on merits and medical grounds on August 2.

Arvind Kejriwal in an alleged money laundering case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its scrutiny. Gujarat government has decided to recruit 7,500 teachers who have cleared the Teacher Aptitude Test (TAT) to permanent positions across secondary and higher secondary state-run and grant-in-aid schools, following protests by eligible candidates. This decision, announced by government spokesperson and minister Rushikesh Patel on Wednesday, aims to fill vacancies within the next three months. The recruitment drive will target candidates who have cleared the TAT, a prerequisite for teaching positions in secondary and higher secondary schools. The state Cabinet headed by CM Bhupendra Patel also decided that the government will soon conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for primary school teachers.
