Chip designer Arm targets $52 billion valuation in year's largest IPO
chip designer Arm is targeting a valuation of more than $52 billion for its initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq exchange on Thursday, according to a company press release. Arm, whose semiconductor design is integrated into the vast majority of smartphones worldwide, has priced its shares at $51, the firm announced Wednesday, ahead of the largest IPO New York has seen for almost two years. The company, which is a world leader in smartphone chip design and is owned by the Japanese tech investor SoftBank, has announced it will list on the tech-rich Nasdaq stock exchange under the «ARM» ticker. At $51 per share, Arm's IPO valuation is at the top end of its target range, underscoring the enthusiasm among investors amid an explosion of interest in artificial intelligence. Traders are looking at Arm's IPO as a barometer for other tech IPOs, which have stalled in recent years as the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and higher interest rates lowered the appetite for riskier investments. If Arm's IPO does well, other companies may consider going public to raise funds, fueling fresh deal-making in the months ahead. A number of tech giants including Apple, Google and Nvidia said recently they would be interested in purchasing Arm shares at the share price it has listed. The listing of around 10 percent of the company is expected to raise roughly $5 billion for its owner, SoftBank. SoftBank, which has had mixed success with its investments in recent years, will retain ownership over the remaining 90 percent or so of the company's shares. Among its most high-profile recent failures was the dramatic collapse of the coworking company WeWork amid concerns over corporate governance. Once valued at $47 billion, WeWork is now

Nukes Are Back, but Uranium Is in Short Supply
A renaissance for the nuclear-power industry has run into a problem: Prices have soared for the radioactive uranium required to fuel reactors in the decades ahead. New reactors have connected to the grid in the U.S., Asia and Europe, while the lifetime of existing plants has been extended. Japan is bringing power stations that were closed after the 2011 Fukushima disaster back online.

Kim Jong Un says Russia will win 'great victory' over enemies
Kim Jong Un said Wednesday he was confident Moscow would win a «great victory» over its enemies, during a high-profile banquet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin held talks with the reclusive leader in Russia's Vostochny cosmodrome in the Far East, as Moscow grows increasingly isolated from the West over its offensive in Ukraine. «We are confident that the Russian army and people will win a great victory in the just fight to punish evil groups who pursue hegemony, expansion, and ambition, and to create a stable development environment,» Kim said. «I firmly believe that the heroic Russian army and people will brilliantly inherit the tradition of victory, and vigorously display their noble dignity and honour on the two frontiers of military operations and building a strong nation,» he told Putin. Russian news agencies reported that during his remarks Kim specifically referred to Russia's "special military operation" — a term Moscow uses for its offensive in Ukraine. US officials and experts have warned Russia is interested in buying North Korean ammunition to use in its assault on Ukraine — an arms deal that would defy global sanctions on Moscow.

Kim offers Putin and Russia North Korea’s full support and refers to Moscow’s 'sacred fight'
Kim Jong Un told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday that his country offers its “full and unconditional support” for Russia’s “sacred fight” to defend its security interests, in an apparent reference to the war in Ukraine, and said Pyongyang will always stand with Moscow on the “anti-imperialist” front. Through a translator, Kim called North Korea’s relations with Russia “the first priority.” Putin in his opening remarks welcomed Kim to Russia and said he was glad to see him. Putin listed economic cooperation, humanitarian issues and the “situation in the region” among the agenda items for their talks. Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un began on Wednesday at the Vostochny cosmodrome, Russian state news agency Tass reported. The talks, which included their delegations, began shortly after Putin and Kim toured various facilities at the cosmodrome, including two launch pads. The leaders met at the remote Siberian rocket launch facility for a summit that underscores how the two leaders’ interests are aligning in the face of their separate, intensifying confrontations with the United States. The two men began their meeting with a tour of a Soyuz-2 space rocket launch facility, at which the North Korean leader peppered a Russian space official with questions about the rockets. Kim's meeting with Putin came hours after North Korea fired two ballistic missiles toward the sea, extending a highly provocative run in North Korean weapons testing since the start of 2022, as Kim used the distraction caused by Putin’s war on Ukraine to accelerate his weapons development. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff didn’t immediately say how far the North Korean missiles flew.

G20 Declaration testament to diplomatic skills, dexterity of PM Modi, his team: UNGA President Dennis Francis
UN General Assembly Dennis Francis said. «First of all, let me congratulate the government and people of India on the fantastic outcome of the G20 Summit,» Francis told PTI in an exclusive interview here. «I think it's a testament to the diplomatic skill and dexterity of Prime Minister Modi and his team that they were able to keep the G20 together in issuing a solid joint statement of partnership, which of course, is what we need,» Francis, who assumed his role this month as President of the 193-member UN body for the 78th session, said. «We need to build solidarity, we need cooperation, we need a conciliatory approach to our challenges — all of the things that are spelt out in the declaration,» he added. India hosted leaders of the world's biggest economies, including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov among others, for the G20 Leaders' Summit on September 9 and 10 in the Indian capital Delhi. As G20 President, India pulled off a big diplomatic win with the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration at the summit, overcoming major differences in the Russia-Ukraine war. The announcement about the consensus on the 34-page declaration and its subsequent adoption came hours after India circulated a new text to the G20 countries to describe the Ukraine conflict. «We have just received good news.

Vladimir Putin hails Make in India; asks Russian officials to use domestic cars like Indian counterparts
Putin on Tuesday hailed India's "Make in India" Initiative at the 8th Eastern Economic Forum’s (EEF) plenary session in Vladivostok and suggested that Russian officials like their Indian counterparts should use Russian cars for driving, instead of using foreign automobile brands. Earlier on Sunday Russia hailed India's G20 Presidency and stated that the Global South led by India did not allow the war in Ukraine to take over the agenda. Putin has been one of the ardent supporters of the PM’s focus on ‘Make in India’ amid Western sanctions on Russia since the war. In June heaping praises on PM Narendra Modi Putin had said “Our friends in India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a great friend of Russia, a few years ago presented a concept — «Make in India». And it had a very visible effect on the Indian economy.” At another EEF session Putin said that the government will not allow the pace of development to slacken in the Russian Far East as it is a strategic region for the country.

G20 shows value of India stake in other countries' foreign policies
