Trump pulls security clearances for Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton
Donald Trump on Friday took away security clearances for former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others in his latest move against his Democratic opponents. The Republican president, who has also revoked the security clearance for former President Joe Biden, defeated Clinton in the 2016 presidential election and Harris in last year's election. «I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information,» Trump said in a late Friday memorandum that also included former Secretary of State Antony Blinken. While the revocations may not have immediate impacts, it is another sign of the growing political rift in Washington as Trump seeks revenge on his perceived enemies. The memorandum was issued hours after Trump arrived at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf property for the weekend.

Here's how US is countering Islamic State group during Syria's upheaval
Islamic State militants in Syria were meant in part as a message to the group and a move to ensure that it doesn't try to take advantage of the chaos following the overthrow of President Bashar Assad's government. The US and its partners want to make sure the Islamic State group, which still has a presence in Syria, can't step into the leadership void and once again exert control over wide swaths of the country, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said Monday. The US on Sunday struck about 75 IS targets in the Syrian desert. The US has had troops in Syria for the last decade to battle IS. The tumult following a rebel offensive that toppled Assad has raised fears of an Islamic State resurgence. «ISIS will try to use this period to reestablish its capabilities, to create safe havens,» Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday, using another acronym for the group. «As our precision strikes over the weekend demonstrate, we are determined not to let that happen.»

A new “quartet of chaos” threatens America

Antony Blinken, America’s secretary of state, was unusually blunt on a recent visit to Europe: “One of the reasons that [Vladimir] Putin is able to continue this aggression is because of the provision of support from the People’s Republic of China," he said. China was, he added, “the biggest supplier of machine tools, the biggest supplier of microelectronics, all of which are helping Russia sustain its defence industrial base".

Antony Blinken heads to Middle East for new ceasefire push as Israel strikes Beirut
Antony Blinken headed to the Middle East on Monday to launch another push for an elusive ceasefire, seeking to revive negotiations to end the Gaza war and defuse the spillover conflict in Lebanon. Blinken's trip to the region is his 11th since the attack on Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, that triggered the Gaza war. It comes as Israel intensifies its military campaign against Iran-backed militants — Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israel carried out several strikes in Beirut's southern suburbs on Monday, including one near the Rafik Hariri University Hospital, the capital's main government hospital. Four people were killed, including a child, and 24 others were wounded, the health ministry said.

HARROWING FOOTAGE of limbs attached to intravenous drips inside burning hospital tents in Deir al-Balah in Gaza on October 14th was a reminder that the war there—one of several fronts Israel has been fighting on since Hamas massacred 1,200 people a year ago—is far from over. Although the world’s focus is on Lebanon and a possible Israeli retaliation against Iran, the horror in Gaza continues.

After China meeting, Antony Blinken says Beijing's talk of Ukraine peace 'doesn't add up'
Antony Blinken underscored strong U.S. concerns about China's support for Russia's defense industrial base in talks on Friday with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, saying Beijing's talk of peace in Ukraine «doesn't add up.» In a meeting with Wang on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Blinken said he also raised China's «dangerous and destabilizing actions» in the South China Sea and discussed improving communication between their militaries. Blinken told a press conference he and Wang also discussed ways to disrupt the flow of drugs into the United States, and the risks posed by artificial intelligence.

Donald Trump assassination attempts linked to Iran? Here's what US intelligence officials reveal
Donald Trump's campaign on Iranian threats against the Republican presidential nominee, adding that the briefing centered on previously reported threats and not a new plot, as per a report on AP. US Secret Service boosted Trump's security protection in July following news of an Iranian threat on his life. Iranian hackers also stole information they retrieved from Trump's campaign. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday that officials have been tracking Iranian threats against a number of officials including Trump and some who serve in President Joe Biden 's administration. The attention to Iranian threats comes at a sensitive moment in the campaign following two assassination attempts targeting Trump. There's no evidence though connecting these events to Iran.
