A pair of attorneys defending FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried against one of the biggest white-collar prosecutions in decades are veterans of high-profile cases, including ones involving drug lord El Chapo and disgraced socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

Disgraced former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) on Wednesday confirmed plans to stick with his new lawyers Marc Mukasey and Torrey Young, who are also representing Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky, according to a report by Reuters.

Testifying in court but without the jury for his criminal trial present, Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried faced questions from prosecutors, who pressed the former FTX CEO on his alleged involvement in using customer funds for investments through Alameda Research. 

Attorneys representing the United States Justice Department rested their case against Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried after more than three weeks of expert witnesses and testimonies from former FTX and Alameda employees. 

Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) had a lot going against him well before the start of his criminal trial: the ire of many in the crypto space, suspicion from United States policymakers, and negative attention from some in the media looking for clickbait angles to associate with the former FTX CEO.

Daniel C. Silva, former assistant US attorney and shareholder at law firm Buchalter, believes that Sam Bankman-Fried's defense might be setting the stage for a potential appeal if the disgraced crypto boss is found guilty. 

Former FTX CEO Sam "SBF" Bankman-Fried has been on trial since Oct. 3 in a federal court in New York, accused of seven counts of fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud on FTX investors and customers. As expected, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is employing a forceful legal approach to demonstrate his offenses, while Bankman-Fried’s defense is offering minimal resistance so far. 

A judge has denied a request by defense lawyers to release disgraced former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried from jail to help him prepare for the upcoming court case.

Sam Bankman-Fried said Friday that prosecutors have delivered another four million pages of documents for the FTX founder to examine six weeks before trial, making it impossible for the former cryptocurrency executive to adequately review the evidence for an October trial from behind bars. Bankman-Fried lost the right to remain free on bail when a judge decided two weeks ago that the fallen cryptocurrency wiz had repeatedly tried to influence witnesses against him. Prosecutors say he intentionally deceived customers and investors to enrich himself and others, while playing a central role in the company's multibillion-dollar collapse after the equivalent of a bank run. In a letter to U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, attorneys Christian Everdell and Mark Cohen renewed their request for the 31-year-old to be freed so he can adequately prepare for his Oct. 3 trial. He'd been living with his parents in Palo Alto, California, under the terms of a $250 million bail deal that was in place since he was brought to the United States from the Bahamas in December. His lawyers appealed the ruling to jail him to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. And earlier this week, they complained at a hearing that he has had to survive at a Brooklyn lockup on bread, water and peanut butter because they won't provide him with vegan food.
