A Formula One dilemma: Race for this year, or next
Formula One teams face a dilemma this season. They have to decide when to stop development of this year's car to focus on 2026, for what Christian Horner, the Red Bull team principal, said was «the biggest regulation change in probably 50 or 60 years in the history of the sport.» Teams develop their cars over a season as they fight for the drivers' and constructors' championships or try to improve their positions. The higher a team finishes, the more prize money it earns. This year is different. The changes to the regulations in 2026, including the configuration of the engine, means teams have to focus resources early on next season's car. Development for 2025 could stop after a few Grands Prix.

Verstappen captures 4th F1 championship after Mercedes sweep of Las Vegas Grand Prix
Verstappen cruised to a fourth consecutive Formula 1 championship on Saturday night by finishing fifth in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Verstappen needed only to finish ahead of Lando Norris of McLaren to give Red Bull a fourth straight driver championship. The Dutchman started fifth but was already up to second by the 10th lap around the street circuit that includes the famed Las Vegas Strip. Norris, who had to score at least three points more than Verstappen to extend the championship fight, finished sixth. Verstappen needed only to finish higher than Norris to win the title, which he did with two races remaining on the season.

Red Bull does give you wings: Despite investigation, Christian Horner is in driver’s seat
Formula 1 season began this week and there was Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull Racing, still leading his team as it begins its bid for a fourth consecutive championship. Horner was also front and center a week ago at Red Bull's launch of its 2024 car — a virtual highlight reel of the success Horner has built since he became team principal in 2005. Make no mistake, the longest-tenured team leader in the F1 paddock knows how to win: Red Bull has won six constructors' championships and seven drivers' championships under Horner. But as he continues with «business as normal» — Horner's own words at the launch last week — nobody else can figure out how he has remained on the job during an internal investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct that parent company Red Bull announced on Feb. 5.

F1 update: Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo joins AlphaTauri, replacing Nyck de Vries
Daniel Ricciardo, a Formula One driver, is shockingly making a comeback to the sport, this time with Red Bull's second squad, AlphaTauri. As of the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 23, he will take Nyck de Vries' place for the balance of the season. With his decision to return to the Red Bull team he left in 2018, Ricciardo, who took a sabbatical from competition this season as Red Bull's backup driver, emphasised his wish for a happy finale to his Formula One career. The pressure on underwhelming driver Sergio Perez increases as a result of Ricciardo's choice to sign with the secondary squad since it positions him to perhaps return to the primary Red Bull team in the future. Ricciardo is prepared to drive for AlphaTauri for as long as necessary, according to sources familiar with the situation, to show that he has overcome the challenges he had when competing for McLaren in 2021 and 2022. The news was officially confirmed on Tuesday while Ricciardo was participating in a tire test for Red Bull at Silverstone. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner commented on Ricciardo's performance during the test. Nyck de Vries' departure from AlphaTauri seemed inevitable for some time, given his struggles on the track and the public criticism he received from Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko. Marko previously expressed doubts about de Vries' suitability for Red Bull's F1 program. Despite winning the Formula 2 and Formula E championships, de Vries failed to replicate his impressive debut for Williams at the Italian Grand Prix last year when he stood in for the unwell Alex Albon and scored points.
