According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, at around 1:46 a.m., it received a report of a massive fire incident at a large storage yard near 14th and Alameda streets. It said that more than 150 firefighters were engaged to douse the raging fire which was spreading to nearby areas. The Fire Department said that taking into consideration the severity of the incident, the closure may last at least 24 hours. According to David Ortiz, LAFD Public Information Officer the fire had engulfed both the sides of 14th Street underneath the 10 freeway. The heat was so intense that it melted some of the roadway’s steel guardrails. According to the Fire Department, after the fire incident, the blaze from the first one spread to the nearby warehouse yard between Lawrence and Elwood streets. The massive fire also damaged several cars and a fire engine. But before it could spread, the firefighters were able to control the fire from spreading to three commercial buildings. Officials said that some homeless people who were residing underneath the overpass had a miraculous escape with no injuries. The fire Department said that the crews were assessing the damage and inspecting the structural safety of the freeway. According to LADF, the Freeway will remain closed for traffic until Caltrans gives a green signal that the highway is safe. The Los Angeles Fire Department has issued an advisory for drivers taking the route. The advisory reads: «Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and follow CHP». There was a mile-long backlog of traffic on both the directions. Eastbound traffic at Alameda Street and westbound traffic at Santa Fe Avenue were being rerouted by the CHP.

Carlos Correa played a pivotal role in the Minnesota Twins' Game 2 victory over the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series, solidifying his place in MLB history. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli expressed his satisfaction with Correa's performance. During Sunday night's 6-2 victory, Correa delivered an impressive three-RBI performance against the Astros, leveling the series at one game apiece. This achievement also allowed Correa to tie David Justice for the third-most RBI in postseason history with a total of 63. In doing so, he surpassed the postseason RBI records held by Derek Jeter and David Ortiz. Carlos Correa won a World Series ring with the Houston Astros in 2017 and was a mainstay with the club for seven seasons. Correa returned to Houston as one of the leaders of the Minnesota Twins, who faced the Astros in the best-of-five American League Division Series. Correa, a two-time All-Star, played in six ALDS, five AL Championship Series and three World Series with the Astros. Houston defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2017 World Series. He has 18 homers and 60 RBIs in 81 postseason games, playing his best during the ALDS with eight homers and 29 RBIs in 25 games. Correa, who batted just .230 with 18 homers and 65 RBIs in the regular season, said he thrives in the postseason spotlight.

Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX is probing if it can reclaim the millions of dollars paid to celebrity athletes and sports teams that promoted the exchange before it filed for bankruptcy last November.

A federal judge in Florida, United States, is considering dismissing former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal and tennis athlete Naomi Osaka from the FTX lawsuit, pointing out that it’s unclear whether the two had been served. 

At the height of its corporate power, cryptocurrency exchange FTX convened a group of athletes and celebrities for a charity event in March at the Miami Heat’s NBA arena. Local high school students competed for more than $1 million in prizes, pitching “Shark Tank”-style business ideas to a panel of judges that included David Ortiz, a former Boston Red Sox slugger, and Kevin O’Leary, an actual “Shark Tank” host.
