markets UPS Analysis wellness Trade performer rights Pashupati Advani on 3 themes that should shine in 2025
Pashupati Advani, Founder, Global Foray, says he has been analyzing struggling and stable sectors. The auto sector saw a decline in 2024, highlighting potential opportunities in underperforming areas. Auto sales are down, but decisions can wait. Other affected sectors include oil, gas, and, to a lesser extent, energy and commodities, may see a turnaround this year. Public sector companies and banks are also facing challenges, presenting opportunities as they remain 10% to 20% below peak values. Overall, the market appears stable. However, with investments returning to the US and optimism surrounding Donald Trump's presidency, this shift may not benefit other regions. What is your outlook on the markets and which are the big themes that you are tracking at this point? Pashupati Advani: I have just been reading which are the sectors that have been hit and the ones that are not hit. One is the auto sector, which was down in 2024. I am one of those who believe that you should look at sectors that have not done well and see if there are any hidden gems. So, one is autos. We see that there is pressure in auto sales. There is still a little bit of time before you go into that.

markets UPS Analysis Food Research Trade Experts Expect Rs 20 gain per share of ITC from ITC Hotels listing if duty remains unchanged: Amnish Aggarwal
Amnish Aggarwal, Head — Research, Prabhudas Lilladher, says ITC will retain a 40% stake in ITC Hotels, potentially reducing its sum of the parts (SOTP) valuation by Rs 15-17 post the latter’s listing. This makes the ITC Hotels listing a positive for shareholders. Three key events for ITC are: the demerger of ITC Hotels, a possible interim dividend in mid-February, and the upcoming Budget, which may affect duties. If excise duties remain unchanged in February, the stock could see double-digit returns, with a potential gain of around Rs 20 per share from the ITC Hotels listing. How is the year ahead going to pan out? Is it going to be as happy as the first half of 2024 or not quite? Amnish Aggarwal: In the next couple of months, I expect the markets to remain slightly volatile because the first factor to watch out for is Donald Trump summing reins as the US president. The second key factor to watch out for will be the Budget on 1st of February and then obviously the earning season is ahead of us. So, the next couple of months could be volatile but as we progress through the year, I expect the markets to not only stabilise but give double-digit returns in the coming year.
