Amazon's movie strategy is finally ready for its close-up. After a decade-long dalliance with big-screen theatrical releases, the giant tech company will take center stage this week at the annual convention for theater owners, spending several million dollars to parade a stream of A-list stars including Ryan Gosling, Ben Affleck and Chris Hemsworth. It is the first time the company has ever taken on such a role. The point: to prove that its movie arm, Amazon MGM Studios, is serious about releasing around 14 big, broad commercial films a year to theaters nationwide and around the world.

Amazon Studios has ordered a second season of spy series "Mr and Mrs Smith", a reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Sources told Variety that season one stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are not expected to return to star in Season 2. Glover will continue to be credited as a co-creator and executive producer on the series alongside Francesca Sloane, who will return as showrunner. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said they are excited to announce that the second season of the "groundbreaking spy series" is in the works for global Prime Video customers.

Road House, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, was released on Amazon Prime Video on March 21. The reboot of 1989 classic has delivered a rating of 50 million-plus viewers, according to a report in Deadline. Road House, directed by Doug Liman, boasts an ensemble cast of Daniela Melchior, Darren Barnet, Billy Magnussen, Conor McGregor, Arturo Castro, Lukas Gage, Jessica Williams, and JD Pardo.

Before Maya Erskine, the «Pen 15» actress was tapped to portray Jane to Glover's John. Donald Glover has stated that it was an unusual separation and noted that a good relationship is one where one does not flicker from the uncomfortable situations. And that he does not know if they are ever going to reach a place where they could be entirely savage towards each other.
