Oil prices ease as aid convoys arrive in embattled Gaza Strip
Oil prices eased on Monday as aid convoys started to arrive in the Gaza Strip over the weekend amid diplomatic efforts to contain a conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas from spreading to the wider oil-rich region. Brent crude futures fell 60 cents to $91.56 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures lost 61 cent to trade at $87.47 a barrel at 0038 GMT. For the past week, contracts rose more than 1% for a second consecutive weekly jump, on fear of potential supply disruption if the Israel-Hamas war grows into a wider confrontation in the Middle East, the world's biggest oil-supplying region. «Israel agreed to hold off its attack on Hamas following pressure from the U.S.,» ANZ Research said in a client note.

‘Justin Trudeau a laughing stock in India…Joe Biden treating him like doormat’, says Canada's opposition leader
alleged a potential link of Indian officials in the murder of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Poilievre, while speaking to Nepal’s Namaste Radio Toronto, said the issue with India should have been handled in a more “professional manner" by the Canadian PM. “India is the largest democracy on earth and it's fine to have our disagreements and to hold each other accountable, but we have to have a professional relationship," he was reported as saying.

Biden walks tightrope with support for Israel as allies and the left push for restraint
Joe Biden told a crowd of Democratic donors over the weekend about a decades-old photo he took with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an aside that seemed intended to illustrate his long support of Israel and track record of speaking bluntly with the conservative Israeli leader. Biden said he'd written on the photo of himself as a young senator and Netanyahu as an embassy hand, «Bibi, I love you.

Australian prime minister announces China visit hours before leaving for US to meet Biden
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he will visit China in early November, making the announcement Sunday hours before he was to fly to the United States to meet with President Joe Biden. Albanese also said China agreed late Saturday to review the crippling tariffs it levied on Australian wine that have effectively blocked trade with the winemakers' biggest export market since 2020. Albanese will become the first Australian prime minister to visit China in seven years when he travels to Beijing and Shanghai on Nov.

US pushes UN to back Israel self-defense, demand Iran to stop arms supply to Hamas
The draft text, seen by Reuters, calls for the protection of civilians — including those who are trying to get to safety — notes that states must comply with international law when responding to «terrorist attacks», and urges the «continuous, sufficient and unhindered» delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip. It was not immediately clear if or when the United States planned to put the draft resolution to a vote. To pass, a resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no vetoes by Russia, China, the United States, France or Britain.

Cairo Peace Summit: Arabs call for de-escalation
Israel-Hamas war becoming a wider conflict. Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said he'd agreed with US President Joe Biden that the Rafah crossing should be open “sustainably.” The Israeli Defense Force said it was responding with live fire on Saturday to a number of launches made toward Israel by Lebanon. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported earlier that Israel's military struck a village near the countries' border. Switzerland's top prosecutor announced the start of a criminal investigation into alleged payments made to Hamas weeks before the attacks on Israel, the Swiss public broadcaster reported on Saturday. Attorney General Stefan Blaettler said the accusation centers on financial support to a terrorist organization, while declining to say who the proceedings are directed against. Egypt opened its crisis summit in Cairo with the leaders of Italy, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and South Africa among those on hand, as well as senior officials from the EU, Turkey, Russia and China.

'Sliver of hope' as Hamas releases hostages, but Gaza aid stalled
Israel pounded the densely-populated territory where millions waited for promised aid deliveries on Saturday. The Islamist group took more than 200 people hostage when it stormed into Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7, and killed at least 1,400 people, mostly civilians who were shot, mutilated or burnt to death on the first day of the raid, according to Israeli officials. The fate of the hostages has been shrouded in uncertainty, so the release of mother and daughter Judith and Natalie Raanan offered a rare «sliver of hope», said Mirjana Spoljaric, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross. US President Joe Biden said he was «overjoyed» by the release, which comes days after he visited Israel to express solidarity with the wounded country and press for humanitarian aid into Gaza. Trucks carrying relief are still stuck on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing into Gaza, though Biden said they could cross in the «next 24 to 48 hours.» Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas, and says around 1,500 of the group's fighters were killed in clashes before its army regained control of the area under attack on October 7. Biden said Friday he believes the attack was motivated partly by Saudi Arabia's plan to recognise Israel. Israel's military campaign has levelled entire city blocks in Gaza, killing 4,137 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Israeli troops are massed on the border with Gaza ahead of an expected ground invasion that officials have pledged will begin «soon». But a full-blown land offensive carries many risks, including to the hostages from Israel and around the world held by Hamas.
