RMT union has declared a strike by London Underground workers that will last nearly a week, starting on Sunday 23 July until Friday 28 July. The dispute primarily revolves around concerns regarding pensions, job reductions, and working conditions, which the union claims could jeopardize the employment of 600 individuals within the network. This development marks an escalation in an ongoing conflict between the RMT and Transport for London (TfL).

Union heads argue that rail operators and the government are not meeting their demands, pouring fuel to the fire – and subsequently – expanding the strike calendar. RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said, “This latest phase of action will show the country just how important railway staff are to the running of the rail industry.” “My team of negotiators and I are available 24/7 for talks with the train operating companies and government ministers,” he added. Moreover, drivers at 16 rail operators will refuse to work overtime for six days in July due to a long-running pay dispute. The Aslef union announced that its members will withdraw non-contractual overtime from July 3 to 8. This action, short of a strike, follows a vote in favor of continuing industrial action. The overtime ban has led to timetable changes, service cancellations, and disruptions for passengers. South Western Railway and Chiltern Railways have adjusted their schedules during this period.
