Chandrayaan-3 lander instruments detect 'natural' movement. Details here
The initial assessment of the first-ever measurements of the near-surface lunar plasma environment over the south pole region by RAMBHA-LP payload onboard Chandrayaan-3 lander indicates that plasma there is relatively sparse, ISRO said on Thursday. Meanwhile, the ILSA payload on Chandrayaan 3 lander to study lunar seismic activity has not only recorded the movements of rover and other payloads, but also has recorded an event, appearing to be a natural one, on August 26. “The source of this event is under investigation," ISRO said.

India to clock GDP growth of 6.5% in FY'24 despite rainfall deficit: CEA Nageswaran
The Indian economy is likely to grow at 6.5% in the current fiscal despite deficient monsoon rainfall, chief economic advisor V Anantha Nageswaran said on Thursday. “There is no real cause for concern that inflation would spike out of control as both the government and the Reserve Bank are taking adequate steps to maintain supply and keep prices under check, reported PTI quoting the chief economic advisor.

Core sector growth eases marginally to 8% in July
core sector registered an 8% growth in July, compared with 8.3% in the previous month, as all eight sectors recorded a positive growth for the first time in 14 months, according to data released Friday. While the continuation of government capex (both centre and states) in July led to a strong performance in steel and cement sectors, economists noted that the growth in cement and electricity sector, despite seasonal rains, indicated a progression of economic activity. “Overall, the recovery in the infrastructure industries appears to be ticking off on a pervasive note which bodes well for the private sector capex cycle which Ind-Ra believes is at the cusp of a pickup,” said Paras Jasrai and Sunil K Sinha, economists at Ind-Ra. On Friday, another data released by the government showed GDP growth rising to a four-quarter high of 7.8% on the back of rising consumption and sustained capex. Economists pointed out that a private capex revival was necessary for India to sustain growth momentum.

India’s economic growth rises to a four-quarter high of 7.8% in Q1
“Rural demand is on a recovery mode and government’s sustained capital expenditure push is crowding in private investments,” said chief economic advisor, V Anantha Nageswaran, on Friday post the data release. While experts point out that growth is likely to slowdown in the coming quarters as the base effect wanes, they indicated that a consumption boost closer to the end of third quarter may provide some succour to full year growth. “We are going to now be entering to run-up to elections, which leads to a sharp increase in consumption expenditure.

Chandrayaan-3: Payload ILSA records movements on lunar surface, appearing to be a natural one, says ISRO
Vikram lander and Pragyaan rover's activity on the lunar surface, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said on Thursday that Instrument for the Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) payload on Chandrayaan 3 lander has recorded the movements of rover and other payloads. Additionally, on August 26, 2023, the first micro electro mechanical systems technology-based instrument, ILSA has recorded an event, appearing to be a natural one, ISRO said on X, formerly Twitter. «The source of this event is under investigation,» the space agency added. ILSA, deployed on the lander, recorded these sounds as part of the in-situ experiments on the moon. The payload consists of a cluster of six high-sensitivity accelerometers, which are indigenously fabricated using the Silicon Micromachining process. «The core sensing element consists of a spring-mass system with comb-structured electrodes. External vibrations lead to a deflection of the spring, resulting in a change in capacitance which is converted into voltage,» ISRO explained. Further, ILSA's main objective is to measure vibrations on the ground which are generated by natural quakes, impacts, and artificial events. «The vibrations recorded during the rover's navigation on August 25, 2023, are depicted in the figure. Additionally, an event, seemingly natural, recorded on August 26, 2023, is also shown. The source of this event is currently under investigation,» ISRO said in a statement.

Reservoir water level 23% down on-year, 9% below 10-year average; experts see severe impact
Bank of Baroda. “At any rate, July-August are normally the months when there is heaviest rain and, hence, the deficit in August will have far-reaching impact." For the week ended Wednesday, India recorded a precipitation of 30.7 mm, 40% lower than the long period average (LPA). Higher water levels are critical for the agriculture sector, with farmers largely depending on reservoirs for irrigation.

Stubborn Inflation Proves Difficult to Tame in Europe
Eurozone inflation remains stubbornly high even as other signs point to a slowing economy, presenting the European Central Bank with the tricky task of cooling already anemic demand without pushing the region into a prolonged recession. The surge in energy and food prices that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has left the eurozone with higher inflation and weaker growth than in the U.S. When ECB policy makers raised the bank’s key rate last month, they signaled that they might pause at their next meeting, which is scheduled for Sept.
