UPS awards trends country reports India's coal and mineral output grows
India reported a 5.5% growth in iron-ore output at 135 million tonnes (MT) for the first half of the current financial year 2024-25. The country produced 128 MT iron-ore in the same months of the previous fiscal. Manganese ore production also rose by 6.2% to 1.7 MMT in fiscal 2024-25 from 1.6 MMT during the corresponding period of previous year. India also reported higher coal output during October 2024. Among non-ferrous metals, primary aluminium production in the months under review rose 1.2% over the corresponding period last year, increasing to 20.90 lakh ton (LT) during fiscal 2024-25. Refined copper production grew by 4.6% from 2.39 LT to 2.50 LT. According to the Mines Ministry, India is the second largest aluminium producer, among top 10 refined copper producers and fourth largest iron ore producer in the world. “These growth trends point towards continued strong economic activity in user sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive and machinery,” a Mines Ministry statement said.

Eicher Motors Ltd on Friday said its arm VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd posted a 5 per cent decline in total sales to 7,112 units in October 2024. VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), a joint venture of the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, had sold 7,486 units in October 2023, Eicher Motors said in a regulatory filing. October 2024 sales included 6,911 units of the Eicher brand and 201 units of the Volvo brand, it added. In the domestic commercial vehicles market, Eicher branded trucks and buses recorded sales of 6,611 units last month compared to 7,077 units in October 2023, down 6.6 per cent.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received over 300 calls reporting fire-related incidents on Diwali, though no life-threatening cases were reported, an official said on Friday. Speaking to ANI, Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg said that between midnight and 6 am, approximately 158 fire-related incidents cases were reported. «There were no major calls but we received many. From 5 pm yesterday until midnight, around 192 calls were logged, and between midnight till 6 am around 158 more were reported. From 5 PM to 5 AM, in just 12 hours the 300 mark was crossed,» Atul Garg said.
