Jason Aldean’s video pulled out by CMT; What is the controversy over 'Try That In A Small Town' song?
Country Music Television (CMT) has decided to stop airing Jason Aldean's music video «Try That In A Small Town» following its release on Friday. This decision came after Aldean faced backlash due to perceived themes of gun violence and lynching in the song. The network received criticism from online critics who viewed the lyrics as promoting sentiments that could exacerbate gun violence and lynching among Aldean's rural, small-town fan base. A CMT spokesperson confirmed the removal of the video from rotation in an email to USA TODAY on Wednesday. Viewers pointed out that certain scenes in the music video were filmed at the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee. This location holds historical significance as it was the site of the 1927 lynching of Henry Choate, an 18-year-old Black man. It is also associated with the infamous Columbia Race Riot that took place in 1946.

Heartbreak Was Everywhere at the Grammys
It would be hard to cite a dance song with more depressing lyrics than Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers," which captured Record of the Year honors at the Grammys and ranked No. 2 on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 Singles chart. Set against an irresistibly peppy beat, its lyrics make a case for finding empowerment through solitude.

Taking over Brooklyn: Ralph Lauren makes a stylish return to New York Fashion Week
Ralph Lauren took over a different New York city borough — Brooklyn — with a sumptuous event that marked his return to NY Fashion Week after four years and brought out stars like Jennifer Lopez, Julianne Moore, Diane Keaton, Mindy Kaling, Gabrielle Union, James Marsden and many others. After crossing the country last year to stage a lavish show at the grand Huntington Library in San Marino, California, Lauren returned to his home base of New York with Friday's show in a cavernous warehouse space at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, transformed into a reimagined artist's loft. He decorated the space with rustic wood and draped canvases, and added glittering chandeliers above. None other than Christy Turlington closed out the runway show of Lauren's Spring 2024 women's collection, the 53-year-old supermodel looking regal in a one-shouldered gown in shiny gold.

‘Try That in a Small Town’: Cody Johnson supports Jason Aldean amid controversy. See what happened
Cody Johnson expresses solidarity with Jason Aldean at a St. Louis concert following the recent removal of Aldean's song and video from CMT rotation. During his Friday night performance, Johnson took a stand in support of fellow country artist Aldean amidst the controversy over the song, «Try That in a Small Town». Graham Allen, host of the Dear America podcast, captured and posted a video of Cody Johnson voicing his support for Aldean during the show at St. Louis' Chaifetz Arena. Johnson addressed the criticism Aldean received for releasing the song, saying, «If you're videoing this, and Jason Aldean if you're seeing this video, you keep it up, brother. You do you, boo boo.» Johnson went on to interpret the song as a patriotic one, asserting, «If being patriotic makes you an outlaw, then by God, I'll be an outlaw.» Several artists, including Travis Tritt, John Rich and Lee Greenwood, have defended Aldean, while others, such as Jason Isbell, Adeem the Artist, Margo Price and Sheryl Crow have criticized both the song and Aldean. The controversy began when Aldean released «Try That in a Small Town» in May and performed it during his set at CMA Fest in June. The song and its video drew swift criticism on social media, with commenters calling it racist and pro-gun. CMT subsequently removed the video from rotation, sparking mixed reactions.
