It was the sixth drone attack on the capital this month. Two people were injured. Klitschko, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said a drone had hit a block of flats in the Solomyanskyi district, south of the city centre, triggering a fire on the upper floors that was quickly brought under control. Emergency services, also writing on Telegram, said several apartments were damaged on the 24th, 25th and 26th storeys of the building.

Vitali Klitschko said the city was under missile attack on Sunday with explosions in the Ukrainian capital, two days after a Russian missile killed 18 people in President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown. Klitschko said paramedics had been sent to two districts in Kyiv, while the Ukrainian air force said missiles had entered the northern Chernihiv region. «Explosions in the capital. Air defence is in operation,» Klitschko said on Telegram. «The missile attack on Kyiv continues. Stay in shelters!» He added that three people were injured so far, and said there was reported wreckage falling in two non-residential sites.

Ukraine's Land Forces said that the country's air defence systems destroyed 25 out of 32 Russia-launched Iran-made Shahed drones, most of which targeted Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Reuters witnesses heard at least five blasts across Kyiv, and Ukrainian media footage showed a number of cars damaged. «Drones came onto the capital in groups and from different directions,» Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's city military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app.Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that one person was injured in the historic Podil neighbourhood and a fire broke out near one of the city's parks. Debris from downed drones fell on the Darnytskyi, Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Podil districts, Klitschko and the city's military administration said. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, drone debris sparked a fire in an apartment, which was quickly extinguished. There were no immediate reports of injuries, Popko said on the Telegram messaging app. There was no immediate comment from Russia about the attacks.

Kyiv's mayor said on Wednesday that a Russian drone attack on the capital overnight caused damage in multiple districts. «As a result of the enemy attack on the capital and the fall of (unmanned aerial vehicle) wreckage, a non-residential building was damaged in the Solomyansky district,» Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Kyiv's busy Solomyansky district hosts an international airport.

Kyiv killed one person and wounded at least four others, authorities said on Thursday, with explosions heard across the Ukrainian capital in the third night of attacks. «Tonight, a massive attack by Iranian drones took place,» Kyiv's military administration said on Telegram. Iran-made Shahed explosive drones had «entered the capital from different directions,» it said, adding «about a dozen» had been downed in the city's airspace. Falling debris was reported in five districts, it said, adding that a 19-year-old woman and 23-year-old man had been hospitalised with shrapnel wounds. Two people were wounded in Darnytsky district «as a result of falling debris,» Sergiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, wrote on Telegram.

Kyiv said on Friday it had repelled a night-time explosive drone attack launched by Russia less than 24 hours after massive bombing raids on energy infrastructure left millions of Ukrainians without electricity.

New Russian strikes killed five people on Saturday in Ukraine, where authorities were trying to restore electricity as quickly as possible after the massive missile strikes the day before which caused power cuts.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russian forces have shelled settlements in the southern Kherson region 258 times in the last week.

Ukrainian officials have warned that they are expecting to face a new wave of Russian missile strikes in the next few days.

A day after Russian strikes battered Ukrainian cities, killing ten people and knocking out power and water service in several regions, according to officials, more than two third of Kyiv was still without power on Thursday morning.
