India Inc. has a weak show in 2024 Padma honours list
Just four persons from the world of business were named for the country’s top civilian honours ahead of Republic Day, the least-represented major field for the Padma awards this year. Their share among all recipients—3% out of total 132 awardees—has been tiny for two years in a row, a Mint analysis of data from the home affairs ministry showed. Last year, three of the 106 Padma awardees (2.8%) were from the ‘trade and industry’ category, a sharp decline from a 7.8% share in 2020 and 7.1% in 2022.

Morning Coffee: Trader laments his missing mojo in tragic investor letter. Barclays lost M&A bankers are finding some love
Global macro investing is a tough business. Your position sizes are big, and they’re often leveraged. And “relative value” trades have the nasty property that sometimes the “cheap” side gets cheaper while the “expensive” side gets more so, leaving you with a “hedge” position that’s losing money at double the speed.

Europe’s economy is beginning to feel the pain from supply-chain disruptions caused by the crisis in the Middle East. Data released on Wednesday showed businesses had to wait longer for parts to arrive in January after attacks by Yemen-based Houthi rebels on cargo ships in the Red Sea disrupted freight routes from Asia. The attacks persuaded numerous freight carriers to take the safer but longer and more expensive journey around Africa via the Cape of Good Hope.
