Wall Street indexes dip with focus on Trump policies, economic data
Wall Street's three major indexes closed lower on Tuesday as investors booked some profits from a post-election rally and waited anxiously for U.S. inflation data due this week. The indexes had rallied to record highs since the Nov. 5 U.S. election as investors bet on a boost to equities from President-elect Donald Trump's proposed tax cuts and the prospect of easier regulatory policies.

The margin of safety: the ten-billion-dollar lesson from Amgen
portfolio companies as a routine, but amidst the flurry of analysis, have you ever paused to reflect on how much of their inner working we truly grasp? How many acclaimed attributes of greatness remain valid, and how much can we discern from a distance? These questions hold significant implications for the valuations we are prepared to endorse, moulding our long-term returns. Permit me to recount the story of Amgen, a leading biotechnology company based in the United States, as an illustrative case study. A notable book that emphasized the importance of corporate culture by looking at successful companies (stock price performance as a guide) ranked Amgen prominently. Amgen's adeptness in «embracing a myriad of possible dangers» was a strategic manoeuvre that propelled the company to a superior standing.

SoftBank-backed Neumora bags $2.51 billion valuation in lackluster debut
Neumora Therapeutics, which is backed by Amgen and Japan's SoftBank, fell in their market debut on Friday, giving the company a market capitalization of $2.51 billion. The Watertown, Massachusetts-based company's shares debuted at $16.50 per share on Nasdaq, below the offer price of $17 apiece. The ongoing surge in listings points to a nascent recovery in the U.S. IPO market amid growing expectations of a pause in interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Neumora, which is developing drugs for brain diseases, raised $250 million by selling 14.7 million shares priced at the mid-point of its previously disclosed range.

Biden FTC’s Antitrust Bark Proves Worse Than Its Bite
A weak party can get a much stronger opponent to back down, game theory explains, by signaling it is willing to take extreme actions and bear steep costs. But that sort of brinkmanship arguably works only if you don’t have to actually fight—and lose—repeatedly. Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan has been open about her willingness to take on hard cases and lose.
