Nvidia's forward PE ratio tumbles to lowest in eight months
Nvidia's strong quarterly report last week have left the world's most valuable chipmaker trading at its lowest forward earnings multiple in eight months. Nvidia's stock added nearly 2% to $468 on Monday, leaving it down almost 1% since last Wednesday, when the Santa Clara, California company far exceeded expectations with its quarterly revenue forecast as an artificial-intelligence boom fueled demand for its chips. At that price, Nvidia shares are trading at the equivalent of around 33 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, according to Refinitiv data.

Revised IT hardware PLI scheme: Govt gets 58 applications
global companies for the revised production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware, a top official said. Alkesh Kumar Sharma, secretary, ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), said the deadline for applications is August 30, which will not be extended. «We have received 58 applications for IT hardware PLI so far, from both global and local companies,» Sharma said at an industry event Monday. He added all major companies have applied for the scheme. The deadline for the revised PLI scheme was extended for the second time in July, after stakeholders sought more time to file the paperwork. The revised scheme has a financial outlay of ₹17,000 crore, more than doubling the incentives given in the previous version of the scheme. The scheme intends to attract global IT hardware brands such as Apple, Dell, HP and others to set up their manufacturing base in India. The revised scheme not only asks for brands to start assembling IT hardware products such as laptops, desktops, tablets, all-in-one PCs and ultra small form factor PCs, but also includes a localisation schedule to incentivise manufacturing of components such as printed circuit boards, memory modules and more, for which participants will be eligible to receive additional incentives. The applications come with the government imposing import curbs on laptops, tablets and servers, citing national security reasons.

USTR raises concerns on India’s import restrictions on tablets, PCs
US Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai on Saturday raised concerns related to India’s import licensing requirements for technological equipment during her meeting with commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal. The two ministers agreed to explore this issue further and find a solution that addresses both countries’ concerns, commerce and industry ministry said in a statement. “She noted that there were stakeholders that needed an opportunity to review and provide input to ensure that the policy, if implemented, does not have an adverse impact on US exports to India,” USTR office said in a statement. India on August 3 restricted imports of these devices and put them under license regime. In a message on social media network X (formerly called Twitter), Goyal said he held a bilateral meeting with the US counterpart Tai.
