Is it time to buy travel platform companies, aviation stocks or hotel stocks? Mayur Milak answers
Mayur Milak, Senior V-P- Auto & Aviation, Asian Markets Securities, says “Q3 is one of the best quarters for the aviation industry. If I look at IndiGo, we have just seen the correction in ATF prices at the beginning of December as well. Now, if I just compare this quarter's fuel cost vis-à-vis the earlier quarter, they are up by about 10%, maybe but your fares are up by almost 20%. So, it clearly gives a very strong edge on profitability.” Let us look at this question purely from the standpoint of somebody who wants to say, okay, I went on a booking portal and prices have been exorbitant. I went on a hotel website, prices were sky high. Now, as a customer, I may be feeling a pinch but as an investor, is it time to say buy some of these travel platform companies, aviation stocks or hotel stocks? Clearly, yes. Q3 is one of the best quarters for the aviation industry. If I look at IndiGo, we have just seen the correction in ATF prices at the beginning of December as well. Now, if I just compare this quarter's fuel cost vis-à-vis the earlier quarter, they are up by about 10%, maybe but your fares are up by almost 20%. So, it clearly gives a very strong edge on profitability. And with the kind of scenario pricing power that these guys are sitting on at this point, clearly a very strong buy.

Delhi airport plans levying higher charges for grounded aircraft
Delhi airport operator DIAL plans to levy higher charges from airlines for grounded aircraft as they occupy available parking space and impact overall operational efficiency, amid rising instances of grounding of planes due to technical and other issues. «We are planning that in the next traffic calculation, we are going to request that for people who are grounding (aircraft) here for more than a certain period, there should be some sort of higher charges because otherwise it disturbs the operations of other airlines,» Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar told PTI in an interview. Jaipuriar, who is in charge of the country's largest airport, was responding to a query on whether the operator will look at levying higher charges from airlines for aircraft that are grounded at the airport.

Essar Oil UK to invest $3.6 billion in greening operations
Essar Oil UK will invest $3.6 billion into a range of energy-efficiency and carbon-capture initiatives over the next four to five years. This will enable the company to decarbonise its production processes by 2030, its chief executive said. «Our focus is to decarbonise all the production processes,” Deepak Maheshwari said. Of the $3.6 billion, $2.4 billion will be invested at its site in Stanlow, between Liverpool and Manchester in the UK, and $1.2 billion in India. The investment, he said, will come from the company's own cash flows, a mix of debt and equity, and the UK government's subsidy for low-carbon initiatives which is termed as ‘contracts for difference’. Essar had in February announced the launch of Essar Energy Transition, an initiative to create an energy transition hub in Northwest England. »We see ourselves in a very unique position...by the time all government approvals are received, we would have implemented at least two of our hydrogen projects.
