World record missed: Goa’s Kauthankar & Bakle miss Sangakkara-Jayawardene record due to a mistimed call
Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle etched their names in Ranji Trophy history with a 606-run partnership for the third wicket against Arunachal Pradesh. However, their joy of setting a new Ranji record turned bittersweet when they realized they had narrowly missed breaking the all-time first-class cricket partnership record by just 19 runs. When Kauthankar and Bakle walked into the dressing room at the lunch break, they were informed they were only 18 runs away from surpassing Maharashtra's Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne’s Ranji Trophy record of 594 runs. On resumption, the duo quickly broke the record amidst loud cheers at the Academy ground in Porvorim. Kauthankar, who had already reached a triple century, was joined by Bakle, who also completed his maiden triple ton in just his second Ranji game. The Goa captain, Darshan Misal, declared the innings at 727-2, sealing the 606-run partnership. Only later did the team realise that they were just 19 runs shy of breaking the all-time first-class record of 624 runs, set by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene against South Africa in 2006.

Shami makes quiet comeback as Bengal struggle vs MP
Mohammed Shami returned wicket-less from his 10 overs in a subdued comeback to competitive cricket after 360 days as Bengal struggled in their Ranji Trophy Group C game against Madhya Pradesh here on Wednesday. Electing to field first, MP were 103/1 at stumps after bowling out Bengal for 228 in their first innings. The visitors need an outright win to keep their slim quarterfinal hopes alive. Bengal's attack is depleted by injuries to Ishan Porel and Rishav Vivek, while Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep are on national duty. All eyes are now on Shami to not only prove his fitness but also rejuvenate his state team's campaign. Bowling on the Holkar Stadium green-top, the 34-year-old Shami, who was sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury on his left leg for which he underwent a surgery, returned figures of 10-1-34-0.

KL Rahul & the art of getting out
KL Rahul it is all in the mind. Someone who has scored hundreds in South Africa, England and Australia obviously has the potential. If he could come back from injury and keep wickets as well as he did in the 2023 World Cup, there is little doubt he has the ability. His problem is he is periodically low on confidence. Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli (as coach and captain) were able to get the best out of him from time to time. Then, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid did the same. Now, it is on Rohit and Gautam Gambhir to give him the confidence to step up in Australia,” that was how former India wicketkeeper and later chief selector MSK Prasad summed up KL Rahul. This was just moments after Rahul was dismissed in the most bizarre manner in the second innings of the India A game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. There were no real alarms in the 43 balls he played and it seemed he was getting set for a long innings. That’s when a delivery from off spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, which would have missed leg stump, was actually padded by Rahul towards the off stump after he offered no shot. It was a freakish dismissal but with Rahul such things seem to happen far too often. “He is more invested in being perfect than in scoring runs. It is a kind of obsession with him. The number of times he shadow bats, perfects his stance, practices getting behind the line of the ball, you know that he is trying to be as perfect as is humanly possible,” said one of the Duleep Trophy commentators.

Gives me a same kind of feeling as MS Dhoni: AB de Villiers on James Anderson registering for IPL 2025 mega auction
James Anderson's registration for the IPL 2025 mega auction to MS Dhoni's retention for Rs 4 crore by Chennai Super Kings. Anderson, who retired from Test cricket earlier this month after finishing with 704 wickets and as the third highest wicket taker, has last played a T20I in 2009 and T20 match in 2014. It came as a surprise to everyone when the 42-year-old put his name in the IPL auction for Rs 1.25 crore.

England's Salt ties with Babar, becomes player with joint 3rd highest T20I centuries
Salt reached this accomplishment during the first T20I against West Indies at Barbados. During the match, England was assigned a task to chase down 183 runs. Salt almost single-handedly did it by himself, scoring 103* in just 54 balls. His innings was laced with nine fours and six sixes. His strike rate was 190.74. This is Salt's third T20I hundred, tying him with Pakistan star Babar, who also has three T20I tons. Only Indian stars Suryakumar Yadav (4 centuries) and Rohit Sharma (5 centuries) and Australian hitter Glenn Maxwell (5 centuries) are above Salt.

India's 3-0 Kiwiwash: Rohit's men struggle in Mumbai test, spin woes persist
India were swept 3-0 by New Zealand at home. Not the Australians’ Final Frontier, with among the best teams assembled, not England’s BazBall, but New Zealand just playing Test cricket as it should be. India did not take their eyes off the prize—a place in the World Test Championship final—rather they were too glued to it, and took their eyes off the ball. Cricket, especially if you are a batsman, is a one-ball game, because that’s all it takes to end your stay, and if you’re not focussed in the moment, you’re done. This Indian team has built a proud home record because they play well together. There was a sense of fire under Virat Kohli, but Rohit Sharma has brought companionship back to the fore as a leader. He’s not one to cut someone down when they have had a bad day.

Ind vs NZ Test: New Zealand create history as India suffers first-ever Test series whitewash at home
Set a target of 147 runs to win, India faltered and were bowled out for 121 runs. Ajaz Patel followed his first innings fifer with another six wickets to end with eleven wickets in the match. Off-spinner Glenn Phillips complemented Patel with three wickets. In 2021, he had picked 1o wickets in an innings at the same venue. Rishabh Pant fought a lone battle with 64 runs off 57 balls on a wicket that turned square. He had scored 60 in the first innings as well. None of the other batters even crossed 15 runs as the top order had collapsed to 29/5.

I was not at my best as captain in leading the team: Rohit Sharma after Team India's 'terrible' performance against New Zealand
New Zealand on Sunday, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma admitted that he had not been at his best in leading the team. «This was an unfortunate series where we tried certain things that did not come off. I was not at my best as captain in leading the team as well as with the bat also,» said Sharma after the match. New Zealand completed an unprecedented 3-0 series sweep in India as the Black Caps dismissed the hosts for 121 on a tricky wicket to secure a 25-run victory on day three of the third and final test in Mumbai on Sunday.

Ind vs NZ: Rishabh Pant's half century keeps India in the hunt as New Zealand runs through top order
Rishabh Pant on Sunday scored an unbeaten 53 as he saw India to 92-6 at lunch on Day 3 in their chase of 147 in Mumbai. The Test match is perfectly balanced, with India needing 55 more runs and New Zealand four wickets as the game to register a 3-0 clean sweep. Pant and fellow left-hander Washington Sundar, on six, were batting at the break.
