Working on polygamy and UCC laws, aiming to curb evangelism by banning magical healing: Assam CM Himanta Sarma
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state is working to make robust legislation for polygamy and Uniform Civil Code. Talking to media persons on Monday, he said, “Assam cabinet in its meeting has discussed both polygamy and UCC. We were following polygamy; Uttarakhand passed a law on UCC. We are now aligning both so that we can prepare a robust legislation. We are working on that.” He added that the Assam cabinet has approved a very important legislation prohibiting magical healing. “Healing is a daisy subject used to convert tribal people. This bill we are going to pilot as we believe that the religious status quo is very important. Whoever is Christian, Muslim or Hindu let them be so that a proper balance can be achieved in our state.”

We’ve Reached Peak Celebrity PDA
The end of the Super Bowl Sunday night played out more like a rom-com finale. When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reunited on the field after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, they fell into each other’s arms and kissed at least five times. This was after the singer’s dramatic arrival off a 5,700-mile flight from Tokyo to make it to the game on time.

Dollar ticks up, US inflation data tops this week's bill
markets subdued the start of what could turn into a busy week, with all eyes on U.S. inflation data for clues on when the Federal Reserve may start to cut rates. A reading of the euro zone's economic growth in the fourth quarter on Wednesday could offer fresh direction.

Farmer protests: Deja vu?
Some farm groups plan to march to Delhi to protest on 13 February. The last time farmers agitated, three years ago, the Centre stood firm against an attempted siege of the capital, but later relented and scrapped the three farm bills they were opposing. The exact discontent this time is unclear, and so are the extent and depth of it, but efforts have been mounted to squeeze the flow of protestors to Delhi.

People are so confident about their earning power today that they do not keep tabs on saving, spending
accounts were written. The money was kept in separate paper envelopes, marked as milk, kirana, vegetables, and such. At the start of the month, salary was allocated to these various covers. Everyday accounts were written in the notebook. Mom and dad did not go to sleep before tallying all balances. Despite the daily reinforcement, that habit died with them. None of us kept track of our daily accounts. Maybe we wanted to rebel and be different. Or, perhaps, we were relatively more prosperous and did not have to keep accounts. Or, maybe, it was a bit of both. We were the generation that had positive cash balances in the bank before the next salary arrived. Our parents struggled to pull through the last week of the month. They needed tight control on expenses on an everyday basis. We could relax and care about large-ticket items, and not sweat over small details. However, we were living in denial about our finances, and couldn’t be bothered by the financial crunch that hit us every now and then. Spend when you have the money, stay at home when you don’t, was the overall rule. Those were the days when personal loans and credit cards were not widely available in the retail market. We seemed content with the yoyo state of our household finances, but did not write accounts or make budgets. Many of our friends did not either.
