Bitcoin, Ethereum crash over 70% from peaks; crypto investors lose over $2 trillion in 8 months
If we compare the notional value lost, only eight countries have a GDP more than what the crypto market eroded in less than three quarters. Countries like Canada and Italy have a GDP of little more than $2 trillion, whereas Brazil's GDP stood at $1.83 trillion. The total market capitalization (m-cap) of the digital market is marginally above the $1 trillion mark, which was more than $3 trillion at its peak in November 2021.

Bitcoin slump triggers warning of 'trouble ahead' for global markets
Bitcoin’s tumble is piquing the interest of investors who view pronounced swings in the digital token as a possible precursor for broader changes in risk appetite in global markets. The cryptocurrency has shed about 4% in the past two days following a near 16% plunge in April, the worst monthly drop since Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX digital-asset empire imploded in November 2022. The token changed hands at $57,359 as of 11:17 a.m. Thursday in Singapore, around a two-month low.

Is crypto market in for long winter after latest bout of selling?
The latest bout of selling ensued after Russia's central bank called for a crackdown on cryptos. Its central bank on Thursday proposed banning the use and mining of cryptocurrencies on Russian territory, citing threats to financial stability, citizens' wellbeing and its monetary policy sovereignty. The move is the most recent in a global cryptocurrency crackdown as governments from Asia to the United States worry that privately operated and highly volatile digital currencies could undermine their control of financial and monetary systems.
