Bitcoin's (BTC) market behavior is not yet “synonymous” with previous bear market bottoms, one of the leading crypto analysts argues.

On Sept. 12, Bitcoin is doing Bitcoin things as usual. Since Sept. 9 the price has broken out nicely, booking a near 16% gain and rallying into the long-term descending trendline which appears to have resistance at $23,000. 

Look at different segments of the blockchain industry, they seem to react to events in the broader world. While one segment like nonfungible tokens (NFTs) could experience a sudden rise in interest and investment, other areas like decentralized finance (DeFi) may be slowing or stagnant. It is no different for the month of August, which saw positive signs, such as Bitcoin’s long-term-holder numbers nearly reaching its previous all-time high of over 13.6 million. Other segments, such as GameFi, experienced a 13.8% decrease in new users in the space from July. 

U.S. dollar fell broadly and markets found reasons to be cheerful at the end of a dour week. Bitcoin, the biggest cryptocurrency by market value, rose more than 9% to $21,254, a two-week high. If it holds, the daily percentage gain would be the largest since late February. Ether, the second-biggest, rose more than 5% to hit a three-week peak at $1,746. Bitcoin had been as low as $18,540 on Wednesday. Market participants said there was no particular trigger for the gains beyond a broad upbeat mood in evidence across asset classes on Friday, led by a drop in the safe-haven dollar and reinforced by positive moves in global shares.

The correlation between Bitcoin (BTC) and stock markets has been unusually high since mid-March, meaning the two asset classes have presented near-identical directional movement. This data might explain why the 10% rally above $21,000 is being dismissed by most traders, especially considering S&P 500 futures gained 4% in two days. However, Bitcoin trading activity and the derivatives market strongly support the recent gains.

Bitcoin — dropped about 6 per cent to break below the $19,000 mark. Its biggest peer, Ethereum, slumped about 8 per cent. Barring the US dollar-pegged stablecoins, all other tokens were trading with deep cuts on Wednesday. Polygon and Polkadot tanked 9 per cent, whereas meme coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu tumbled 8 per cent. The global cryptocurrency market cap was trading sharply lower at $935.13 billion mark, dropping as much as 6 per cent in the last 24 hours. Analysts said Bitcoin is continuing to show resilience at around $20,000 but it is being put to test as risk aversion sweeps through the market. They said a significant break of this level could send the cryptocurrency to June lows of around $17,500.Ethereum rose 3.98 per cent to $1,638.43, taking its seven-day rise to 6.7 per cent.

Bitcoin was trading at $19,836.21, up 0.31 per cent in the last 24 hours. The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation is up 0.7 per cent in the last one week. Risk appetite has been weak of late, which has weighed heavily on Bitcoin and other risk assets. Ethereum rose 1.43 per cent to $1,575.07, taking its seven-day rise to 8.36 per cent. BNB edged 0.16 per cent higher to $278.47. This crypto has fallen 0.38 per cent in the last seven sessions. Cardano added 1.32 per cent while Solana gained 2.25 per cent in the last 24 hours. Shiba Inu and Polkadot climbed 3 per cent each.
