Institutional investors may be more open to crypto assets other than Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), says David Duong, Head of Institutional Research, at Coinbase.

Bitcoin (BTC) starts a new week with consolidation in the air amid some of the least volatile conditions ever.

Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) continue to suffer losses, with both cryptocurrencies displaying bearish signals at the start of the new week. The broader cryptocurrency market is also struggling, with Bitcoin and ETH each experiencing declines of over 6% in the past few days. 

Bitcoin [BTC] Ordinals have been a topic of discussion since its launch. Interestingly, Ordinals recently crossed the 300,000 mark. At press time, there were a total of 302,076 inscriptions. 

Nonfungible token (NFT) conglomerate Yuga Labs is facing some criticism from the cryptocurrency community, including the creator of Bitcoin Ordinals, over how it plans to auction its new Bitcoin NFT collection.

According to two analysts from CryptoQuant, history suggests that the value of Bitcoin [BTC] is poised to surge in 2023. The experts have shared their predictions based on historical trends and patterns observed in the BTC’s price movements in the 2018 – 2019 market cycle. 

Michael Sonnenshein, CEO of Grayscale Investments, stated in a recent interview that he «can't imagine» why the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) «wouldn't want» to protect Grayscale investors and return the true asset value to them. Sonnenshein made this statement in response to a question regarding why the SEC «wouldn't want» to protect Grayscale investors.

The Chairman of the SEC, Gary Gensler, recently claimed in an interview that all cryptocurrencies, except Bitcoin, fall under the agency's jurisdiction. However, his comments have been disputed by lawyers for the cryptocurrency industry who argue that the SEC must prove its case in court for each token individually before it can claim jurisdiction over them.

During a meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20) that took place on February 25, United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen emphasized how important it was to develop a robust regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.

NanoLabs, the company behind digital currency Nano, has filed a legal complaint against Coinbase, a leading crypto exchange, for alleged trademark infringement. According to the complaint filed on February 24, 2023, in the California Northern District Court, NanoLabs has accused Coinbase's Nano Bitcoin futures contract and Nano Ether futures contract products of infringing on its trademark rights.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed its preference for regulating crypto assets, including stablecoins, rather than imposing an outright ban. IMF's Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, stated during the G20 finance ministers meetings in Bengaluru, India that differentiating and regulating digital assets are the agency's top priorities. However, the IMF has not ruled out the option of banning cryptocurrencies entirely if they pose a significant risk to financial stability.
