Cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp announced via the social media platform X that the assets credited to creditors of the Mt. Gox Bitcoin exchange on Bitstamp are now fully accessible following the completion of security checks.

Mt. Gox, the infamous Japanese Bitcoin exchange that collapsed in 2014, has begun final preparations to repay its creditors as it executes test transactions. This move marks a significant milestone in a decade-long journey marred by legal battles and recovery efforts.

German authorities have sent an additional 282.74 BTC ($17.6 million) to cryptocurrency exchanges Coinbase, Bitstamp, and Kraken, raising speculation about a potential sell-off of the assets.

Online trading platform Robinhood Markets (HOOD) agreed to buy European cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp for about $200 million, in a deal that will expand Robinhood's cryptocurrency and international business, according to a release Thursday.

Robinhood Markets has announced an agreement to acquire Bitstamp Ltd ., one of the oldest and most respected cryptocurrency exchanges, in a $200 million all-cash deal.

Founded in 2011, UK-based Bitstamp has over 50 active licenses and registrations globally and will bring in customers across the EU, UK, US and Asia to Robinhood, helping the platform take on major exchanges such as Coinbase. Bitstamp’s core spot exchange, with over 85 tradable assets, and products like staking and lending, will also help Robinhood move beyond the retail market and secure institutional clients. Johann Kerbrat, GM, Robinhood Crypto, says: “Through this strategic combination, we are better positioned to expand our footprint outside of the US and welcome institutional customers to Robinhood.” The Bitstamp team will join Robinhood when the deal closes in the first half of next year, subject to closing conditions.

European cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp has received in-principle approval for its license application to offer digital asset services in Singapore. 

With the listing, investors in the cryptoasset ecosystem as well as traditional financial markets participants will be able to operate transactions based on the EUR CoinVertible (EURCV) asset.The bank says the stablecoin will help meet demand for a robust settlement and store-of-value asset for on-chain transactions and for cash pooling and cash management activities, alongside enhanced collateral management. In an effort to ensure liquidity, the bank has appointed FlowDesk as a market maker for EURCV-EUR and EURCV-USDT trading pairs on BitStampJean-Marc Stenger, chief executive officer, SG-Forge, says: “As the first EUR stablecoin to be issued by a fully regulated subsidiary of a global bank, this is an exciting moment for our industry as we move towards our mission of mainstream adoption of crypto.
