Reliance Jio on Tuesday launched its fixed wireless access (FWA) device — Jio AirFiber — in eight cities — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, just over a month after rival Bharti Airtel introduced its own device in two cities, as both telcos make initial attempts at monetising their 5G services. «Our extensive fiber-to-the-home service JioFiber, already serves over 10 million customers...With JioAirFiber, we are expanding our addressable market to rapidly cover every home in our country with similar quality of service,» Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio, said in a statement. A fixed wireless device uses radio frequencies instead of cables/fibres to provide fixed broadband access, using technologies like 5G. Simply put, these are portable broadband devices, much like dongles but with better coverage and speeds. The Jio AirFiber service has been launched with multiple plans ranging from 30 Mbps speeds to 1000 Mbps speeds, all available in blocks of six months and 12 months, the telco said in the statement. The plans are available in two buckets — Jio AirFiber and Jio AirFiber Max.

YouTube suspended comedian and actor Russell Brand on Tuesday from making money from videos posted to the social media platform, three days after British news organizations published an investigation in which several women accused Brand of sexual assault. The channel is a potentially significant source of income for Brand, who was earning money through advertisements and paid promotions.

YouTube said on Tuesday it had blocked Russell Brand from making money from his online channel after the British actor and comedian was accused of a string of sexual assaults. Brand, once one of Britain's most high-profile comedians and broadcasters, said on Saturday he had never had non-consensual sex. That came as the Sunday Times newspaper and Channel 4 TV's documentary show «Dispatches» reported that four women had accused the 48-year-old of sexual assaults, including a rape, between 2006 and 2013. London police said on Monday that since then they had received an allegation of sexual assault dating from 2003. Brand, the former husband of U.S. singer Katy Perry, has repositioned himself in recent years to build a more than 6 million-strong following to his YouTube channel. Recent videos included an interview with the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and discussions on everything from COVID to UFOs, censorship and wellbeing. YouTube, owned by Google parent Alphabet Inc, said it had suspended monetisation on Brand's channel after he violated its creator responsibility policy. «If a creator's off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community,» a YouTube spokesperson said. Brand issued a video message on social media on Saturday to deny the «very serious criminal allegations» hours before they were published. «These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies.

Sumit Deb, outgoing President of the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI). In his address during the 57th annual session of FIMI, he expressed doubts whether international Junior Exploration Companies or domestic exploration companies would be keen to participate in the auctioning of exploration licenses under the proposed regime. “We feel that the amended Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 2023 may not achieve the desired objective of establishing the required resources of much needed deep-seated and critical minerals,” Deb said. The inquiry committee of Jadavpur University constituted to probe into the circumstances leading to the death of a fresher has submitted its report to the authorities concluding that the victim was singled out for severe pre-planned ragging, which included possible sexual abuse, PTI reported. The committee said there are two possibilities for his death – “a case of abetted incident and a case of homicide," the report said. The 17-year-old fresher, resident of Nadia district died, fell from the second-floor balcony of his hostel on August 9 allegedly during ragging by seniors who were staying in the facility illegally.
