Something for your bucket list? 'Flying over Berlin' on Europe's highest swing
Berlin's newest tourist attraction, a swing on the top of a 40-storey tower block. Billed as the highest swing in Europe, the contraption on top of a hotel next to Berlin's famous TV tower is a novel way to take in the city — with a dose of adrenaline thrown in. Once strapped into a harness, customers are propelled forward so that when they are at the high point of the swing, there is nothing between them and the ground 120 metres (nearly 400 feet) below.

Haryana schools to replace 'Good Morning' with 'Jai Hind'
Haryana schools will change from «Good Morning» to «Jai Hind» as part of an initiative to foster patriotism among students, ToI reported on August 9. The Haryana Directorate of School Education has mandated this change, instructing school principals, headmasters, and education officers at district and block levels to implement it from August 15. The state government aims to «inculcate a deep sense of patriotism and national pride» in the students by making this shift. The department emphasised that the new greeting should be used before the national flag is hoisted on Independence Day. The idea is that using «Jai Hind» as a daily greeting will inspire students with a sense of national unity and respect for India's rich history.

NPCI's decision to block C-Edge from retail payments system averted a systemic impact: RBI Governor
NPCI) decision to temporarily block C-Edge Technologies from the retail payments system averted a systemic impact, Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Thursday. Nearly a fortnight ago, IT service provider C-Edge Technologies had been possibly impacted by a Ransomware attack impacting the retail payment systems of a few regional rural banks and co-operative banks. «The NPCI's decision to block further transactions wherever this service provider had been engaged was to isolate the problem, and if that had not been done it could have produced a system wide impact,» said Shaktikanta Das, Governor, RBI. «That would have been far more costly.» A ransomware attack by the RansomEXX group had hit India’s banking system and payment firms. The attack had primarily impacted Brontoo Technology Solutions, a key collaborator with C-EDGE, a joint venture between TCS and SBI. C-Edge had hired Brontoo Technology Solutions to deploy connectivity with Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).

₹18,600 crore for the June quarter (Q1FY25) was above analysts’ estimates but 4.3% lower year-on-year. While production volumes were lower last quarter, ONGC aims to increase output by 19% to 47 million tonnes of oil equivalent (mmtoe) by FY27. This should be aided by higher production from the KG basin 98/2 block, where the ramp-up has been slow.

If insurance company makes late payment, penalty of 12 percent will be imposed: Shivraj Chouhan
Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced that under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), a penalty of 12 per cent will be imposed on insurance companies if the claimed payment gets delayed, which will be directly deposited into the farmers' accounts. According to a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, he identified state government delays in releasing premium amounts as the primary cause of payment delays and urged prompt action. The central government will release its share immediately to prevent further delays, with payments being made directly to farmers' accounts from the Kharif season onward. Chouhan attributed the bulk of payment delays to issues such as delayed release of premium amounts by state governments and disputes between insurers and state authorities.

TRAI asks telecom firms to block bulk calls & adopt blockchain for spam control"
telecom regulator has asked service providers and telemarketing companies to take immediate action against enterprises indulged in bulk calling through 10-digit numbers and deploy technical solutions which can trace and block such calls. ET has reported last week that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on July 24, directed all telecom firms to submit data around unregistered telemarketers, against whom maximum complaints have been registered by consumers in the April-June quarter. Telecom consumers receive lakhs of robocalls everyday by unregistered entities or telemarketers. Such calls bypass the system as these entities use a normal 10-digit numbering series and not the one assigned for telemarketing, say officials.

Haryana Cabinet okays policy to provide job, entrepreneurship opportunities to ex-Agniveers
Haryana Cabinet on Monday approved a policy aimed at providing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to Agniveers after completion of their service in the armed forces. The Haryana Agniveer Policy, 2024, offers benefits in government recruitment, including a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers in direct recruitment for positions such as constable, mining guard, forest guard and prison warder. The decision taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini came ahead of the assembly polls in Haryana and amid a fresh spotlight on the Agnipath recruitment scheme for short-term induction of personnel in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The policy also offers a five per cent horizontal reservation for Group C posts and a one per cent horizontal reservation for Group B posts in line with Agniveers' skill specializations, Saini said.
