Delhi on Saturday witnessed the season's first very heavy rain and the highest in a day in 20 years causing waterlogging, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles and leading to traffic congestion in several parts, the India Meteorological Department said. The Safdarjung Observatory, the city's primary weather station, recorded 126.1 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 133.4 mm on July 10, 2003, a senior IMD official said. The city logged an all-time high of 266.2 mm on July 21, 1958.

Chittorgarh while two men got drowned in two separate incidents in Sawai Madhopur, the police said on Saturday. In Chittorgarh district, Heeralal Bhil of Samelia Majra village and Kesar Bai of Palkhedi village died on Friday due to lightning, the police said.

telecom secretary K Rajaraman will be the next chairman of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), the finance ministry said on Saturday. He will succeed Injeti Srinivas, who had taken over as the first chairman of the IFSCA in early July 2020 for a period of three years. In a notification, the department of economic affairs (DEA) said Rajaraman, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service Officer of the Tamil Nadu batch, is appointed “for a period of three years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till attaining the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest”.

Ikramul Haque alias Abu Talha was arrested in Bangladesh along with his wife in a raid recently, Bangladesh daily Prothomalo reported.
