markets COST UPS Citi Strategy BAY CNG price may go up Rs 4-6 on input supply cut, excise duty cut to ease situation
natural gas to city retailers — a move that may result in Rs 4-6 per kg hike in the price of CNG sold to automobiles, unless excise duty on the fuel is cut, sources said. Natural gas pumped from below the ground and from under the seabed from sites ranging from the Arabian Sea to Bay of Bengal within India is the raw material that is turned into CNG for sale to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households. Production from legacy fields, whose price is regulated by the government and which are used to feed city gas retailers, has been falling by up to 5 per cent annually due to natural decline that has set in. This has led to supply cuts to city gas retailers, four sources in know of the matter said. While the input gas for piped cooking gas that households get is protected, the government has cut supply of raw material for CNG. Gas from legacy fields used to meet 90 per cent of the demand for CNG in May 2023 and has progressively fallen. The supply was cut to just 50.75 per cent of the CNG demand beginning October 16 from 67.74 per cent last month, they said.

Israel scale back some of its strikes in and around the Lebanese capital of Beirut, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Saturday, adding the number of civilian casualties was «far too high.» Austin's comments came hours after Israel carried out heavy strikes on several locations in the city's southern suburbs, leaving thick plumes of smoke wafting over the city horizon throughout the evening. Israel said it struck arms facilities belonging to Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. Tens of thousands of people have fled the southern suburbs — once a densely populated zone that also housed Hezbollah offices and underground installations — since Israel began regular strikes there about three weeks ago.

markets UPS Citi CEO Citigroup Trade rights Morning Coffee: Bankers are busy, but bumper bonuses look unlikely. Deutsche Bank is still making big hires
Everything’s fantastic and nobody’s happy.  That seems to be the message from the bumper day of Q3 results from Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and Citigroup yesterday.  All three big banks beat their earnings estimates, and credit for the beats had to be given fairly and squarely to the investment banking divisions. It would have been reasonable to conclude, as several commentators did, that “Wall Street bonuses have just been salvaged”.
