The demand for institutional investors for Bitcoin (BTC) became evident on Nov. 10 as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Bitcoin futures flipped Binance's BTC futures markets in terms of size. According to BTC derivatives metrics, those investors are showing strong confidence in Bitcoin's potential to break above the $40,000 mark in the short term.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has long been the home of crypto for traditional finance investors, and this is unlikely to change — even with the approval of a Bitcoin spot ETF.

Cboe Digital has announced the launch date of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) margin futures trading – Jan. 11, 2024. The regulated crypto-native exchange and clearinghouse will become the first in the United States to offer both spot and leveraged derivatives trading on a single platform, it said in a statement.

Binance’s dominance of Bitcoin futures open interest has been toppled by traditional derivatives market place heavyweight Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), following Bitcoin’s first move past the $37,000 mark in over 18 months.

Bitcoin (BTC) futures open interest at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) hit an all-time high of $3.65 billion on November 1. This metric considers the value of every contract in play for the remaining calendar months, where buyers (longs) and sellers (shorts) are continually matched.

Bitcoin (BTC) price surged by 26.5% in October and several indicators hit a one-year high, including the BTC futures premium and the Grayscale GBTC discount. 

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), a regulated derivatives exchange that lists Bitcoin (BTC) futures, now stands just behind Binance in terms of notional open interest to rank second in the list of BTC futures exchanges.

Bitwise Asset Management, America's largest crypto index fund manager, announced the launch of two first-of-their-kind Ethereum Futures ETFs, AETH and BTOP, scheduled for October 2. Christopher Waller on Wednesday said higher market interest rates may help the Fed slow inflation, and let the central bank «watch and see» if its own policy rate needs to rise again or not. Waller, who has been among the most vocal advocates for higher interest rates to fight inflation, said price data seemed to now be moving back towards the Fed's 2% target, with financial markets adding further credit tightening of their own. «We're in this position where we kind of watch and see what happens on rates,» said Waller, who was interviewed by former Republican House Speaker and Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan at a high-profile GOP event in Utah. «The financial markets are tightening up and they are going to do some of the work for us...We are just keeping a very close eye on that.
