NEW DELHI : The Centre is exploring options such as increasing the deposit acceptance limit for eligible non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), introducing deposit insurance and creating a specific liquidity window for NBFCs, according to two officials. The goal is to lower funding costs, enabling NBFCs to offer loans to crucial sectors such as agriculture and micro, small, and medium enterprises, at more affordable interest rates, they added. Besides agriculture, MSMEs are a cornerstone of the Indian economy, contributing 30% to gross domestic product, 45% to manufacturing output, and 48% to exports.

Israel says Houthis seize ship in Red Sea, no Israelis among owners or crew
Israel said on Sunday that Yemen's Houthis had seized a British-owned and Japanese-operated cargo ship in the southern Red Sea, describing the incident as an "Iranian act of terrorism" with consequences for international maritime security. The Houthis, an ally of Tehran, have been launching long-range missile and drone salvoes at Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian Hamas militants it has been battling in the Gaza Strip since Oct 7. Last week, the Houthi leader said his forces would make further attacks on Israel and they could target Israeli ships in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. There was no immediate comment from the Houthis on Sunday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said a ship — which it did not name — had been seized, and stressed that Israel was not involved in its ownership, operation or the make-up of its international crew. «There were no Israelis on the ship,» it said. «This is another Iranian act of terrorism that represents an escalation in Iran's belligerence against the citizens of the free world, with concomitant international ramifications vis-a-vis the security of global shipping routes.» The Israeli military said in an earlier statement the ship seizure took place in the Red Sea.

4% Rule: Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated
The 4% rule, which states that you can safely withdraw 4% of your retirement savings each year and adjust for inflation, has been the gold standard for retirees asking how to make their money last until they die. However, with the Fed holding interest rates artificially low for years, the rule has been put into question with some stating it should be 3% or even lower. Now, Morningstar is telling retirees that «The 4% rule may finally hold true as a safe starting withdrawal rate when considering a 30-year time horizon.» This is the firm's highest safe withdrawal percentage since it started the research in 2021. The firm's findings suggest that new retirees using the rule have a 90% probability of still having funds remaining after the 30-year period.

Jamie Carragher Questions Everton's 10-Point Deduction: Discrepancy With ESL Fine Raises Eyebrows
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has voiced his skepticism over Everton's 10-point deduction, stating that the punishment «doesn't feel right» in light of the lenient sanctions imposed on the big six clubs involved in the failed European Super League (ESL) breakaway. Everton's relegation battle has intensified after an independent panel confirmed the 10-point deduction for breaching profitability and sustainability rules. The club, which now finds itself in the relegation zone, posted financial losses exceeding the Premier League's permitted threshold of £105 million over a three-year period.
