Government launches phase 2 of Bharat atta and rice to combat food inflation
food inflation. Pralhad V Joshi, minister for consumer affairs, food, public distribution, new and renewable energy, said that this phase-2 of retail sale of subsidized Bharat Atta and Bharat Rice is done to stabilize the high prices of rise and atta in the market and is a temporary market intervention. «The MSP (minimum support price) has also been hiked twice in a year,” he told newspersons. The phase-2 allocation for rice has been around 2,91,738 metric tonnes, and for atta has been 3,69,947 metric tonnes. The distribution in the first phase, between October 2023 to June 2024, was 15.20 lakh tonnes of wheat flour and 14.58 lakh tonnes of rice. The phase-1 rates were Rs 27.5 per kg for wheat flour and Rs 29 per kg for rice.

Maris Sangiampongsa is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar here on November 2 as part of his soon-to-begin visit to India, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Sangiampongsa is expected to arrive here late on Thursday night and depart on November 3, as per his itinerary shared in an advisory by the MEA. US charters flight to send back Indians staying illegally
Indian nationals who stayed in the country illegally, the US Department of Homeland Security said on Friday, adding that this has been done in cooperation with the Indian government. «Indian nationals without a legal basis to remain in the United States are subject to swift removal, and intending migrants should not fall for the lies of smugglers who proclaim otherwise,» Kristie A Canegallo, acting deputy secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement. The chartered flight was sent to India on October 22. The statement said the Department of Homeland Security continues to enforce US immigration laws and deliver tough consequences for those who enter unlawfully by swiftly returning those without a legal basis to remain in the US while encouraging the use of lawful pathways.

In an advisory sent to platforms, the ministry of electronics and information technology has said that all social media companies must follow the due diligence obligations to promptly remove any such “misinformation that affects public order and security of the state”. “Further, the scale of spread of such hoax bomb threats has been observed to be dangerously unrestrained due to the availability of the option of “forwarding/re-sharing/ re-posting/ re-tweeting” on social media platforms. Such hoax bomb threats are mostly misinformation that is massively disrupting the public order, operations of airlines and security of the airline travellers,” the IT ministry said in its advisory.
