MFIs reduce lending rates as RBI voices concerns
microfinance lenders have reduced lending rates in the past couple of months amid heightened regulatory scrutiny on the pricing policy adopted by these financiers that service the bottom of the consumer pyramid. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was conducting a scrutiny over the past six months or so, and that culminated into the decision to bar errant lenders from doing business from October 21 for charging «excessive» interest rate spreads over their cost of funds. Both Arohan Financial Services and Asirvad Micro Finance — the two NBFC-MFIs penalised — have submitted fresh plans to the regulator. Arohan promised to reduce rates by about 200 basis points while Asirvad said it would lower rates by around 300 bps once they are allowed to resume business, people familiar with the matter said.

Trump 2.0: Will America's strengthening dollar rattle the rest of the world?
Donald Trump coming back to the White House, one such big swings may be on the cards. The economic policies proposed by the US-President elect look set to help the US economy, it might spell trouble for the rest of the world, reports The Economist. Trump laid out a broad array of ideas aimed at providing tax relief, cutting prices, hiking tariffs and strengthening the economy, which ranks at the top of voters’ concerns. However, what parts of economic agenda Trump implements is still unclear, but the unsteadiness in the American stock market is enough to give us a clue what the investors expect (the S&P 500, an index of large American firms, hit successive records on November 6, 7 and 8). ESG jobs in finance: bracing for the Trump effect, or not
Not so long ago, environmental, social and governance (ESG) jobs were all the rage in banking and finance. In the years after the pandemic, they carried a 20% pay premium and there was talk of a skills gap: in 2020, CFA Institute found that 18% of portfolio manager jobs wanted ESG skills, but that only 1.5% of portfolio managers had them. Buffing a CV with ESG seemed like a no-brainer.
