Services inflation to stay muted for now
India's services inflation may remain muted for next few months and will witness a pickup in second half only, economists said, thus helping curb core inflation. «There may be some more downside to services inflation, but a mean reversion or normalisation will happen in the second half of the year,» said Rahul Bajoria, MD & head EM (ex-Asia), Barclays. “However, rates are unlikely to rise to higher levels witnessed postpandemic,” he added.

Broadband, OTT may keep Tata Play in good stead amid DTH dip
Tata Play's revenue from the core direct-to-home (DTH) business is predicted to decrease in the medium term due to moderation in its subscriber base. Still, this decline is anticipated to be offset by growth in broadband and over-the-top (OTT) businesses. According to a report by Crisil, the company's operating margins may face pressure in FY24 and FY25 due to moderation in the DTH subscriber base, partially offset by OTT aggregator Tata Play Binge's improved metrics and Tata Play Broadband's expected breakeven. The company's DTH subscriber base decreased in September 2023 compared to September 2022 due to competition from DD Free Dish and OTT platforms.

Fed rate cut plans may boost Joe Biden's prospects for US Presidential Polls 2024
WASHINGTON : The US Federal Reserve looks on track to cut interest rates as the presidential campaign season heats up, potentially delivering President Joe Biden a boost as polls show Americans dislike his handling of the economy. The Fed could play an outsized - and potentially uncomfortable - election-year role by helping shape attitudes about stubbornly high inflation and mounting housing costs that have been a drag on Biden's reelection efforts.

Effective strategies to pay off your home loan faster
For most people, purchasing a home is a major milestone. However, the associated mortgage debt can be a long-term financial commitment for many. In recent years, home loan borrowers have experienced a substantial increase in their monthly payment amounts. This can be attributed to the repeated hikes in interest rates on home loans by banks, which began in May 2022.

Will Federal Reserve give some ammunition to Joe Biden with rate cut before elections?
Federal Reserve looks on track to cut interest rates as the presidential campaign season heats up, potentially delivering President Joe Biden a boost as polls show Americans dislike his handling of the economy. The Fed could play an outsized — and potentially uncomfortable — election-year role by helping shape attitudes about stubbornly high inflation and mounting housing costs that have been a drag on Biden's reelection efforts. Rate cuts will also invite critics — Republican challenger Donald Trump chief among them — to argue an agency set up to be an independent monetary authority is tipping the political scales toward Biden.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to set up waste-to-steam plant at Pirana dumping site
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced the establishment of a 300-tonne-per-day solid waste to steam plant in Ahmedabad, operating under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The plant, to be constructed by Surat-based Steamhouse India on a 5-acre plot at the Pirana Waste dumping site, is set to significantly reduce environmental pollution by decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. Ahmedabad, the seventh largest metropolis in India, produces approximately 4,000 metric tonnes of solid waste daily. The shift towards sustainable waste management is crucial due to the adverse effects of organic waste decomposition in landfills, which release harmful greenhouse gases contributing to climate change, and the health hazards posed by toxic substances from various waste types to nearby communities, a spokesperson from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation explained. Utilizing waste to steam (WTS) technology, the project aims to establish a circular economy by utilizing Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). This German technology, making its debut in India, offers numerous benefits, including reduced environmental impact, low operational costs, and efficient resource utilization. Additionally, the project is anticipated to provide a more cost-effective solution for steam generation, with capital expenditure projected to be 70 percent lower compared to conventional waste to energy plants, according to the AMC.
