COST UPS Digital Booking Citizens Parke wellness Liquidity and tax implications should be key factors for investing in any instrument: Shweta Rajani
Shweta Rajani, Head-Mutual Fund, Anand Rathi Wealth, says “any capital asset that you have held and sold like real estate, depending on the holding period will be categorised under short-term or long-term capital gain. You could have had unlisted equity or listed equity that made any gains on that. You could have debt mutual funds, you could have some bonds that you have sold. So, again, listed bonds or unlisted bonds – either way – will again come under the head of capital gains. So, a simple definition is any capital assets sold will have an implication of capital gains.” Let us start by talking about the role that taxation plays in one's investment decision-making process and to what extent investors must be wary of tax when they are deciding where they want to invest and where they want to park their money. Shweta Rajani: Since we are talking about tax and investments, both are actually interrelated. When you are taking your investment decisions, one of the factors that one must look at would be taxation. So, generally when we are looking at our investment opportunities, we would look at what can be the return expectation, what is the time horizon, what is the risk factor. Like that, I think liquidity and tax implications should be one key factor for determining whether you should invest in that instrument or not. So, it should be, a key selection criteria, while it should not be the only selection criteria.

entrepreneur, you are either leading a team as a manager, or are accountable for some project or task where you require different people to work together for a successful delivery. A mental model is a summary or compressed version of how a thing works. Let’s consider how you can apply some of these models as a team leader. Occam’s razor The 14th century logician, William of Ockham, said, ‘Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity.’ In other words, the simplest explanation or solution is usually the best one. As a team leader, your team brings to you tough problems, while time is usually your biggest constraint. Prioritise simplicity in approach. Encourage your team to use Occam’s razor to slice away layers of unnecessary complexity and to prefer simple hypotheses over complex ones. Investigate and implement work processes to reduce number of steps, training time and complicated decision-making. This will reduce errors and increase efficiency.

COST Provident Booking Sustainability WhatsApp wellness ITAT grants partial relief to ICICI Bank
Mumbai bench of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal has allowed ICICI Bank Ltd to avail ₹1,855 crore bad debt write-off as deduction, but dismissed the private bank's appeal seeking ₹502-crore worth long-term capital loss allowance. The appellate tribunal was hearing ICICI Bank's appeal against an order of principal commissioner of Income tax (PCIT) for 2015-16. The PCIT had ruled that an allowance of long-term capital loss of ₹996 crore was irregular and that the bank had claimed an excess capital loss of ₹502 crore. The bank had calculated capital gain and capital loss while acquiring and selling shares, applying the cost of inflation index on foreign currency rather than Indian currency, it said. The ITAT bench of Sandeep Singh Karhail and Prashant Maharishi upheld the order of PCIT and observed that ICICI Bank transacted in Indian currency and, therefore, it could not have indexed the cost of inflation on foreign currency.
