Investing.com -- Health insurance group Humana (NYSE:HUM) reported a bump in second-quarter medical costs that was lower than anticipated despite strong demand for surgeries following the COVID-19 pandemic, boosting profit above estimates.

Running a business can mean long days and tight margins, and while pandemic recovery continues, the repayment of loans racked up during the global emergency is adding to those regular stresses.

India's Godrej Agrovet Ltd reported a 27.3% rise in first-quarter profit on Tuesday, aided by lower costs and growth in its animal feed and crop protection businesses. The company's consolidated net profit rose to 1.05 billion rupees ($12.8 million) in April-June, from 827.1 million rupees a year ago. The easing in retail food inflation in the quarter and demand recovery in the agriculture sector aided profitability as raw material costs cooled off.

The company said that the profit was dragged by higher excise duty and company costs during the quarter-under-review. The EBITDA stood at Rs 233 crore. The company clocked a total income of Rs 5253.43 crore during Q1FY24 in comparison to Rs 5206.51 crore a year earlier. However, total expenses during the quarter in review stood at Rs 5072.96 crore, up 1.7 per cent as against Rs 4988.37 crore during the first quarter of FY23.
