Strategy shift at India's top insurer LIC aids government borrowing costs
LIC), the country's largest insurer, has stepped up federal and state debt purchases to reduce capital volatility, according to sources and market participants, also helping lower government borrowing costs. The shift, previously unreported, has helped states reduce costs by more than 40 basis points (bps) over the past 15 months. «LIC has been increasing their investment into state debt,» confirmed a senior official from the state-run insurer, requesting anonymity as they were not authorised to speak to media. LIC did not respond to an email sent by Reuters. Continuous process The shift began in fiscal 2023, not long after LIC went public. LIC began shifting investments from its non-participating fund to debt from equity to reduce volatility in its solvency margin, said another person familiar with the matter, who also declined to be named. Solvency margin, a key measure of capital, refers to the excess capital insurers maintain over claim amounts they may incur. This usually comes out of funds derived from non-participating policies. The plan to shift is a «continuous process» and will be done gradually, they said, declining to specify to what level LIC intends to take its debt investments.

Dunzo may get $30-35 million; proposes to cut fixed costs, reduce burn rate further
Dunzo may only be able to secure $30-40 million in new funding, and that, too, with strings attached. The funding will come with onerous terms in favour of existing investors on liquidity preference, people aware of the matter said. A board meeting is expected to be held at the end of the week to approve the funding. To secure this much needed cash, Dunzo has also proposed to reduce its burn to $300,000 a month with a smaller team of just around 200, sources aware of the plans said. Until September, the cash-strapped company had a monthly burn rate of about $600,000. At the start of the year, Dunzo had more than 1,000 employees but has since undertaken three rounds of layoffs.

What a personal loan costs you
Personal loans are a way to use tomorrow's income today, and the process involved is simple. But you must note that the interest rates are much higher, say, for a car loan. This is because personal loans are unsecured loans. This means that the loan is not by backed any asset. The loan amount and interest rate depend on parameters such as your income, existing credit, repayment capacity, and others. As personal loans come with high interest rates, conitnuous default will put in a downward spiral. Here are some of the lowest personal loan interest rates offered by various banks.

Low EV costs could drive two-thirds of global car sales by 2030: Report
Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) released on Thursday, it foresees a reduction in battery costs by half during this decade, declining from $151 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in 2022 to a range of $60 to $90 per kWh. This cost decrease is expected to make electric vehicles cost-competitive with petrol cars in all markets by 2030, not only in terms of purchase price but also in running costs. Reportedly, batteries constitute a significant expense, making up approximately 40% of the total cost of an electric vehicle (EV).

People come to India for its talent, not to cut costs: Capgemini global CEO Aiman Ezzat
Capgemini and a solid base for it to service clients globally, Capgemini global CEO Aiman Ezzat told ET. The company has more than half of its 360,000 employee base in India. In an interview with Romita Majumdar, the chief of the $23-billion IT company, during his ongoing India visit, said that he is hopeful of the demand situation improving over the next two-to-four quarters but is waiting for an inflection point. Ezzat added that generative AI's impact on productivity gains will be much higher than pricing gains in the long run. Edited excerpts:How do you see technology spending in the current macroeconomic situation? It is pretty mixed at present. There is softness in some places but not everything is doomed. The reality is that our pipelines are huge and that shows the appetite for technology and transformation.
