The Elon Musk-owned company may be given “conditional approval”, based on an undertaking furnished by it, said people with knowledge of the matter. “As per the undertaking, Starlink may be asked to not share with any US agency the machines or equipment used in India, while data should not be routed outside the country,” one of the persons told ET, asking not to be named. Further, the satcom company may be asked to partner with an Indian company in atime-bound manner. This comes as Musk is set to travel to India later this month and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with plans for a Tesla factory expected to be announced. An internal committee of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is working on the Starlink application. Since some of the issues, including those related to Starlink’s collaboration with American intelligence agencies, remain open, the company can only be granted conditional approval, the people said.

Railways has set a new deadline of August 2025 to finish the Sivok-Rangpo Rail Project (SRRP) which will connect Sikkim with the rest of the country through a rail network for the first time, a senior official said on Friday. The project, covering a total length of 44.96 km between Sivok (West Bengal) to Ranpo (Sikkim), has 14 tunnels, 22 bridges (13 major and 9 minor) and five railway stations viz Sivok, Riyang, Teesta Bazar, Melli and Rangpo. At present, trains going towards Guwahati from other parts of the country pass through Sivok railway station which now pave the way for a new rail route to Rangpo in Sikkim via Riyang, Teesta and Melli (all in West Bengal).

According to an official, additional secretary, coal, M Nagaraju this week reviewed the coal production targets for FY25. Representatives of 74 coal mines were present in the review meeting. "Coal block allottees are confident of achieving the production target of 170.0 MT in 2024-25," the official said.
