Saina Nehwal lashes out at anti-woman remarks by Congress leader
Saina Nehwal on Saturday lashed out at Shamanur Shivashankarappa, veteran Congress leader from the state, for making "sexist jibe" at Gayatri Siddeshwara, a BJP candidate from the Davangere constituency. Shivashankarappa, a 92-year-old sitting MLA from Davangere South, had said that Gayatri, wife of former Union Minister and incumbent MP Siddeshwara GM, «belonged to the kitchen». Taking exception to his remark, Nehwal posted on her X account: «Women should be restricted to the kitchen — this is what a top Karnataka leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa ji has said. The sexist jibe at @bjp4india candidate from Davanagere, Gayatri Siddeshwara ji is least expected from a party that says Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon.» The 34-year-old Nehwal, who had won the bronze medal during the 2012 London Olympics, said such misogynistic remarks were upsetting when women in the country are aspiring to leave their mark in every field.

Kerala CM accuses BJP-led Centre of endangering Indian secularism, democracy
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday gave a push to the LDF's Lok Sabha poll campaign by attacking the BJP-led Centre, accusing it of endangering the secular and democratic nature of India. Vijayan alleged that as a result of the repeated moves by the BJP-led Centre to endanger secularism in the country, a large section of people, who have been living in India for decades, are concerned whether they can continue to live in this nation. «Crores of people are living in fear and apprehension in the country,» he claimed. The steps being taken by the central government have also adversely affected India's image, of being a democratic and secular nation, before the world community. «Organisations like the UN and Amnesty International as well as countries like the US and Germany are criticising certain recent developments in India and questioning whether democratic ways are being followed here,» the Marxist veteran said.

President Joe Biden is lapping Donald Trump when it comes to campaign cash - and he'll need it
President Joe Biden's reelection campaign is raising gobs of cash. And it has an election-year strategy that, in a nutshell, aims to spend more — and spend faster. Not only has Biden aimed to show himself off as a fundraising juggernaut this month, but his campaign is also making significant early investments both on the ground and on the airwaves — hoping to create a massive organizational advantage that leaves Republican Donald Trump scrambling to catch up. But while the money pouring in has given Biden and the Democrats a major cash advantage, it's also becoming clear Biden will need it. Throughout his life in business and politics, Trump's provocations have earned him near limitless free media attention. Biden, meanwhile, has often struggled to cut through the noise with his own message despite holding the presidency.
