Growth in range of 7% perfectly good for India unless external environment improves, says Sanyal
India should be satisfied with the current growth rate unless the external environment improves, Member of Economic Advisory Council to the PM, Sanjeev Sanyal, said on Wednesday, terming economic expansion in the range of 7 per cent perfectly good. Sanyal further said it was necessary to protect the hard-earned macroeconomic stability. «Now look, it is possible for us to hit double-digit growth, but I would actually be rather careful about it. This whole game is about compounding growth,» Sanyal said while speaking at the Times Now Summit. India's economy grew at better-than-expected 8.4 per cent in the final three months of 2023, logging the fastest pace in the past one-and-a-half years.

India to offer price forecasting mechanism to neighbouring countries
Mint on 29 October reported that the government was planning to create an AI-based real-time supply and demand prediction model for agricultural commodities that will factor in externalities like weather and trade-related measures. The move came after a patchy monsoon disrupted kharif crops, impacting the sowing and vegetative seasons, amid a forecast by economists for farm output growth in 2023-24 to be slower. The tool makes use of previous data, which makes it “so effective that if we want to see the price pattern of mustard oil in Hooghly for the last 10 years, it can be done in just three clicks", Singh said.

Atomic clocks to ensure one-nation, one time
NEW DELHI : India is deploying atomic clocks across the country to ensure the time shown on your digital watch, smartphone and laptop is truly based on Indian Standard Time—an effort launched more than two decades ago after the Kargil war. Currently, most software operating modules in India rely on US-based Network Time Protocol servers. The government wants all software to instead be synchronised with indigenous atomic clocks, both for uniformity in time and as a defence mechanism, especially in times of war.

India needs EV success even if it increases exposure to Chinese value chains
India’s policy focus on making the country a hub for EV-making will have a side effect. As electric vehicles (EVs) roll off assembly lines, our dependence on Chinese imports will rise, even though we’ve been trying to reduce it. That’s because China, with a head-start of a decade or so, is the global leader of clean-tech in general and this segment of the auto industry in particular.
