RG Kar Hospital issue and the state administration, led by the chief minister, ended on a positive note, according to people privy to the developments. The chief minister is said to have appealed to the junior doctors to resume work at the earliest. However, the doctors have said that they will take a final call only after discussions. The state has agreed to address issues related to strengthening the health infrastructure and providing necessary infrastructure for doctors, people in the know have said. The junior doctors submitted a memorandum to chief minister Mamata Banerjee during their meeting which started at around 7 pm and continued for almost three hours. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar and Junior Health Minister (MoS) Chandrima Bhattacharya were present at Monday's meeting. However, the state government officials said that the junior doctors' demand seeking the resignations of the Commissioner of Police, Director of Medical Education (DME) and Health Secretary, involved an administrative process.

The data released by Tea Board of India indicates a drop of production of around 11% in Assam and around 21% in West Bengal up to the month of July 2024 as against last year during the same period. Sandeep Singhania, President TAI stated that due to the unprecedented weather condition, tea growing regions of West Bengal and Assam has witnessed weakening of tea bushes which has further aggravated by severe pest and disease infestation, indicating a further crop loss in the coming months.

stocks were in heavy demand on Monday, with Kohinoor Foods surging 20 per cent, after the government said the USD 950 per tonne minimum export price (MEP) on basmati rice has been removed. At close of trade, shares of Kohinoor Foods surged 20 per cent, LT Foods jumped 6.70 per cent, KRBL climbed 5.87 per cent and Chaman Lal Setia Exports went up 1 per cent on the BSE. Intra-day, LT Foods surged 9.72 per cent, KRBL soared 7.67 per cent and Chaman Lal Setia Exports rallied 5.92 per cent.

Bihar minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav on Monday said he is «not in the JD(U)», only to retract the comment minutes later, asserting that he made it in jest. Yadav, 77, is one of the most senior leaders of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U). The former state JD(U) president was visibly unhappy over his absence in posters put up on the occasion of the meeting, and told reporters: «I am not in Janata Dal (United)». Minutes later, however, Yadav claimed he had made that remark «in jest».

Vande Metro, now renamed as Namo Bharat Rapid Rail service, between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. According to Western Railway officials, the Ahmedabad-Bhuj Vande Metro service will stop at nine stations and cover the 360-kilometre distance in 5 hours and 45 minutes at a top speed of 110 kilometres per hour. It will depart from Bhuj at 5:05 am and reach Ahmedabad Junction at 10:50 am, the officials had said. For passengers, its regular service will start from September 17 from Ahmedabad and the total journey will cost Rs 455.

West Bengal government invited the protesting junior doctors to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat, to end the impasse over junior doctor's protest, which entered its seventh day in front of State Health Department Headquarters 'Swasthya Bhawan" and crossed 38 days. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has said in his letter that this is the «fifth and last» time the government is reaching out to the junior doctors for the meeting. "...This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the Honourable Chief Minister and your delegates," the Chief Secretary writes in his letter, adding «In view of the Honourable Supreme Court order dated 9th September 2024, directing junior doctors to resume duties by 5 PM on the 10th September 2024, it is our bounden duty, as law-abiding citizens, to follow and adhere to the apex court's directive.» The junior doctors have been stressing on a five-point demand from the beginning of the protest. The demands include the resignation of the Commissioner of Police, Director of Medical Education (DME), Health Secretary and justice of RG Kar deceased PGT doctor who were brutally raped and murdered on August 9. Following the letter, junior doctors are holding general Body meetings.

ED, RBI, tax and consumer affairs departments may be set up to combat the proliferation of online gaming platforms and ensure regulatory compliance, a DGGI report said. The GST intelligence wing of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has initiated action against 118 domestic online gaming entities, and Show Cause Notices have been issued to 34 taxpayers involving tax amount of Rs 1,10,531.91 crore. The notices were issued to these gaming companies as they were not paying GST at 28 per cent rate. Furthermore, 658 offshore entities have been identified as non- registered/non-compliant entities and are being investigated by the DGGI. Also, 167 URL/websites have been recommended for blocking.

He accepted that the charges levelled against him were such that he could not continue as chief minister,» BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi told a press conference at the party headquarters here. He also wondered why Kejriwal did not resign when he was arrested in connection with the scam.

Jagdeep Dhankhar for his apparent attack on Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on reservation, the Congress on Sunday asked the Vice President who he supports, «the One adamently refusing to conduct a caste census or the one championing» the demand for it. The opposition party's jibe came after Dhankhar said, «A person from a constitutional post saying on foreign land that reservation should be ended underscores the same anti-constitutional mindset. The baton of prejudices against reservation has been handed over. It is the same old anti-constitutional mindset.» «Reservation is not against meritocracy, but it is the soul of the country and the Constitution. It is an affirmative action and not negative. It is not depriving someone of opportunity but hand holding those who are pillars of strength of the society,» the vice president said addressing a public event in Mumbai.

Manipur Police on Sunday expressed concern over the use of sophisticated weapons to target security personnel during protests and urged demonstrators to refrain from employing such means to make their point. Addressing reporters, DIG (Range 1) N Herojit Singh said, «We want to remind the public that the police department's duty is to maintain law and order and to respond to armed attacks by miscreants. We have sustained multiple casualties during these challenging times.» Highlighting the shift in protest tactics, the DIG said, «In recent agitations, traditional forms of protests have been replaced with lethal methods targeting security forces. Demonstrators have engaged in stone pelting, shooting iron pieces from slingshots, firing tear gas shells, and using automatic firearms.» «We have evidence of automatic weapons being fired during protests. At Khabeisoi, firing from automatic weapons injured an officer in-charge of Imphal East Commando and another personnel recently. In Kakwa, Imphal West district, firing from automatic weapons left marks on our vehicles,» he claimed.

Bengaluru (Karnataka): An alleged security breach occurred during an event of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah when an unidentified person ran towards the stage where the Karnataka CM was present in Bengaluru on Sunday. The security personnel quickly intervened and stopped the person on the stage, after which the event proceeded without further incident. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has got a new director to spearhead its new energy, petrochemicals and corporate strategy as part of a board revamp aimed at breathing fresh life into the state-controlled behemoth. Arunangshu Sarkar has been appointed as Director for strategy and corporate affairs, ONGC said in a stock exchange filing. Before the elevation, Sarkar, a petroleum engineer from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, was Group General Manager (Production) at ONGC. He had previously worked as General Manager (Strategy & Corporate Planning), ONGC Videsh Ltd — the overseas investment arm of ONGC. Two years back, the board of ONGC was reorganised. Besides creating the new post of Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs), the post of Director (Production) was created after merging Director (Onshore), who is in charge of all oil and gas fields located on land, and Director (Offshore) who looks after all offshore assets, such as the prime Mumbai High fields.
